To all whom it may concern c it known that 1, JOHN F. MURPHY, ct Minneapolis, Hennepin county, Minnesota, have invented certain new and useful lmprovementsin Door-Hangers, of which the following is a specification.
My invention relates to operating mecha nism for double, or what is generally known as center parting doors, orthe type where the movement of one door in one direction will cause a corresponding movement of the other door in the opposite direction.
Doors of this kind are in general use and the primary object of my invention is to improve the hanger and operating mechanism therefor.
The door is adapted for a variety of uses but is designed particularly for use in elevator shaft openings for closing the entrances to the shaft at different elevations.
The invention consists generally in various constructions and combinations, all as hereinafter described and particularly pointed as a guide to hold the rollers in place on the plates 3. The door section 7 has a similar carriage 10 provided with rollers 11, which have substantially the same functions and operate in substantially the same way as the rollers 11. Secured to the lower track are brackets 13 having bearings for pinion 14. This pinion is interposed between the upper and lower tracks within a recess 15 in the lower track and its teeth mesh with those of the rack bars, as will hereinafter appear. Guiding rollers 16 and 17 are mounted on the brackets 13. The upper track is made in two sectlons and consists of side plates 18 and an intermediate plate 19 which is narrower than hangers 21 and 22 with one of the upper In the accompanying drawings forming part of this specification, Figure 1 is a front view of the upper portions of the center parting doors, showing my improved operating mechanism, the doors being in a closed position, Fig. 2 is a similar view, showin the doors in a partially open position, Fig. 3 is a sectional view, showing in detail the operating mechanism, Fig. 4; is a transverse sectional View showing the construction of the track, Fig. 5 is a view showing the doors in their closed position and the means for locking them.
In the drawing, 2 represents a suitable bracket whereon the track is supported. e lower track consists of side plates 3 and an intermediate plate 4.- proyacting above the side plates and secured thereto. The plate sections a rack bar 22 is adapted to slide and is secured to the door section 7, its teeth meshing with the pinion 14.- and held in engagement therewith by the roller 16, while the roller 17 has a corresponding function for the rack bar 9. When, there fore, one door is pushed open, as, for instance, the door section 6, its movement will revolve the pinion 14 from right to left and through its toothed connection with the rack .bar 22 will slide the door section 7 in the opposite direction or toward the left, thus moving the door sections away from one another and exposing the opening. The combination, "with. a stationary track having a longitudinal groove or recess in its underside, of carriages and antifriction rollers therefor adapted to rest and roll on the upper side of said track, upper moi-'able tracl: sections and hangers secured thereto, independent door sections supported by said hangers respect-ive-ly,said upper track sections bearing on said anti-v friction rollers and movable thereon, said upper track sections having centrally arranged, longitudinal grooves or recesses in their under surfaces, a pinion interposed between said upper track sections and said stationary track, and rack bars attached to said door sections respectively and slidable in the grooves in said stationary track and in said upper track sections, one of said rack bars being above said pinion and meshing with the teeth thereof, and the other of said rack bars being located beneatdsaid pinion and meshing with the teeth thereof 2. The combination, with a. stationary track having a raised central portion and bearing surfaces on each side thereof, and a longitudinal recess in its underside, of carriages having anti-friction rollers provided with annular grooves adapted to receive the raised central portion of said track, the flanges of said rollers on each side of said grooves resting and rolling on the bearing surfaces of said track, door sections and hangers therefor, upper track sections carried by said hangers and having longitudinal recesses in its underside, the Walls of said recesses resting on the flanges of said rollers and supported thereby, a pinion interposed in said stationary track, rack bars arranged above and below said pinion and meshing therewith, one of said rack bars being attached to one door section and sliding in the recess in the underside of said stationary track, and the other rack bar being attached to the other door section and sliding in the recess of said upper track sections and in the annular grooves of said rollers, substantially as described.
