Column, a citizen of the United States, 'and a-resident of Chicago, in the county of Cook and-State of Illinois,1'have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Door-Hangers,l of which I do decl-aie the .following to be a full, clear, and exact description, reference being had to the accompanying drawing, forming =part of ithis specification 'My present invention has for its object to provide means for sustaining and gulding the sliding doors of railway frei ht cars, andthe invention consists in the eatures of novelty hereinafter described, illustrated in the accompanying drawing and particularly pointed out in the claims at the end et this specification.

At the door-opening of the car the floor D'projects outwardly, as shown in Figs. 2 and 3,,and beneath the door-opening and along the path of travel of the door is arranged la series of brackets F that sustain a guide bar il. As shown, each of the brackets F consists; of a. casting having an upwardiy en: riding member f2 adapted to forni, withihe body of the casting, a channel to receive the bar Cv, and upon the inner face of cach casting formed a boss or thickened portion if which serves to bring the channel ot the bracket at a. distance from the outer face of the car wall. Each of thel brackets l" conveniently secured to the oar body by ineens of through bolts 10 and l1, the through bolts 'l0 serving also to hold the guide bar (il in position within the brackets. inasmuch as the channels of the brackets l4X are arranged at a distance lspecification f'tetfersratem.

is preferably =formed with :the `upstanding portion f* having a cam-shaped inner face adapted to engage the inner member of the Z-bar E and move the door slightly inward as it is brought to closed position.
The Z-bar E is suitabl bolted to the lower portion of the car door and this Z-bar not only serves to guide and to hold the lower portion of the car door against outward movement, but serves also as a track that rests upon a series of rollers K that sustain the weight of the doorB. These rollers K are arranged centrally beneath the door B and each rollexl K is mounted upon a hollow boss m of a casting or roller bracket M.
Each casting or roller bracket M is attached to the guide bar G, as by rivets m.
The upper portion of each of the castings M is formed with an inwardly projecting ange m2 that rests upon the upper edge of the bar G, this flange m2 serving to relieve in a measure the strain upon the rivets m and transfer it to the upper edge of the bar Gr. Through the hollow boss m of each of the castings or roller brackets M passes a pintle mi and each end of'this pintle is preferably headed so as to retain each roller K upon its boss m.
To the lowey edge of the car door B are secured a serie of supplemental bars R that are preferably angle bars set Within grooves formed at intervals along the lower edge of the door and these supplemental bars are attached to the door by through bolts 20 that also pass through the upper vertical member of the Z-bar E. As shown, the lower members of the supplemental angle bars R are riveted as at 9" to the horizontal member of the Z-bar E. These supplemental bars R serve not only to materially strengthen the Zbar E, but also serve to brace the inner iortion of the Zbar, which in practice is subjected to severe strains.
Having. thus described my invention, what l claim as new and desire to secure by Letters atent is- 1. In car doorv mechanism, the combination with a sliding door, of a bar arranged beneath the path of travel of said' door, brackets for sustaining said bar, and a series of brackets provided with rollers and secured to the outer face of said bar, said roller brackets having perforated flanged portions and having at their upper ends inwardly projecting llanges extending over the upper edge of said bar, and rivets pass# ing through the flanged portions of said brackets and through said bar.
2. In car door mechanism, the combination with a sliding door, of a bar arranged beneath the path of travel of said door, brackets, for sustaining said bar, and a series of brackets provided with rollers and secured to the outer face of said bar, each rof said roller brackets being formed of an integral piece of metal provided with an outwardly projecting perforated boss Whereon a roller is mounted, a pintle passing through said boss for holding said roller in position thereon and each of said brackets having formed integral therewith laterally projecting perforated flanges and having also formed integral therewith at its upper edge an inwardly projecting flange extending over and resting upon the top edge of said bar, and rivets passing through the laterally projecting ilanges of said bracket and through said bar. y
