My invention relates to improvements in mop holders and has for its object the production of a device of this character which Will be of improved construction 'and etticient in' operation. j

Other objects will appear hereinafter.

lvll/'ith these objects in view, my invention consists in the combinations and arrange ments of parts hereinafter described and ciaimed.

My invention Will be best understood by reference to the accompanying drawing forming a part of this specification and in which,

The preferred form of construction as illustrated in the drawing comprises a handle lpreferably cylindrical. in form as shown. Arranged at one end of the handle 1 is a cross-piece 2 formed preferably of a single piece of Wire the ends of which are bent back and projected outwardly for insertion into the end of said handle as clearly7 shown. A ferrule Sis preferably provided at said end of. said handle in order to reinforce the same.` The-cross-piece 2 in operation' is adapted to constitute a stationary clamping member, the same being formed at its respective ends with loops or eyes 4.

The movable clamping member Whidh cooperates with the cross-piece 2 is substantially U-shaped comprising a central portion 5, which is co-extensive in length with the cross-piece 2 and the side port-ions 6 which slidably engage the loops 4, the oonstruction being such that movement. of said movable clamping member is permitted in a ydirection longitudinally of the handle 1 so as to move the portion 5 toward or from the cross-piece 2.- '.lhe portions of the side members 6 of the movable clamping member engaged by the eyes l necessarily extend parallel with each other, the loWer vor outer end portions thereof being bent inwardly toward the band 7 which is slidably mounted upon the handle 1. lSaid end portions 6 are securely embraced by the band 7 at the opposite sides thereof as clearly shown in Fig. 3. The end'portions 6 terminate as shown in loops or rings 8 disposed at the oppositesides4 of the handle for engagement by the lingers if desired in operating the movable clamping member, said loops 8 at the same time lending neatness to the design of 4the holder.

Arranged at the end .if the handle 1 is a Aleaf spring 9 one end of which is securely fastened under the ferrule 3 by means of a rivet l0. The outer free end portion. of the spring 9 engages'under the band 7, the latter being provided With a rectangularly formed outwardly oifset portion 11 in order to accommodate said end of said spring. Said spring is provided adjacent the outer extremity thereof with a plurality of spaced outwardly projecting stops or teeth 12 which are preferably punched therefrom as shown so that the upper sides thereof will be inclined. The stops 12 are adapted to engage Witli the edge 13 of the band 7, said edge being bent inwardly as shown for engagement with said stops. W'ith this ar- .rangemen't it Will be seen that provision is made for holding the' movable clamping member in various posit-ions of clamping relation With the cross piece 2, or in other Words provision is made for the accomnmdationjof mops of dilferent thicknesses, it being'clear that when the edge 13 is in cngagement with the uppermost of the stops .12 the portion 5 of the movable clamping member will be spaced a considerable distance from the cross-piece 2 in order to accommodate a mop of considerable thickness, and When said edge 13 is in engagemcnt with the lowermost of said stops said portion 5 Will be positioned in close proximity With the eross-piece 2 to accommodate a mop which is very thin. .The spring 9" is of such a length as to project beyond the lower extremity of the band 7 so that when it is desired to release the movable clampmg member said spring may be engaged and depressed to dis-engage the stops l2 from` t-he edge 13.
