Description
cdnted (,statw CHARLES K. OSBORN,
OF DIXON, ILLINOIS.
Letters Patent No. 103,766, (lated Hay 31, 1870.
IMPROYVEMENT IN SHUTTER-FASTENERS.
The Schedule referred to in these Letters iPaLtent and making part of the same.
To all 'whom it may concern Be it known that I, CHARLES K. OsBoaN, of` the town of Dixon, in the county of Lee and State of 111inois, have invented a new and useful In'iprovenient in \Vindowblind Fasteners; and I do hereby declare that the; following is a full, clear, and exact description of the construction and operation of the same, reference being had to the annexed drawing making a part of this specification.
Figure l is a perspective view of a window-frame and blind, showing the application of my invention.
Figure 2I is a perspective View of my improved lcdind-fastener detachedfrom the blind and windowrame.
Similar letters of reference indicate corresponding parts in the several figures of the drawing.
My invention h as for its object to provide an improved devicev foi locking window-blinds in a closed position; and
It consists iu the provision of means for holding the blind-catch up, to prevent its catching upon the window-haine, or in the clothing of the operator when the blind is open. i
' It consists, also, inthe method of holding the locking-catches together, as will-be hereinafter more fully described.
In the accompanying drawing- 4 A isl a window-blind, hinged to the frame in the usual manner.
B is an angular arm, pivoted within a metallic cas ing, H, secured to the inner side of the blind in any convenientmanner.
' Upon the stool of the window-frame a countercatch, C, is secured, into which the catch B', formed.
upon the arm B, ts, to hold the blind closed.
Tile counter-catch, withy the catch ,B shutting into it, is placed so far bach in t-he frame that, vwhen the sash G is closed down upon the stool, it shuts directly over the catch and counter-catch `by means of a recess ont in the bottom rail of the sash, as shown in g. 1, at I).
By this means, the sash holds the two catches together, and prevents the blind from being opened until the sash is raised.
The method ofl fastening blinds closed by placing A' the sash upon the locking devices is now new, and I do not, therefore, claim it, broadly.
My invention primarily consists in nsertinga spring, I, within the casing H, immediately under the end of the angulararm B, to hold up said arm with its catch, as shown in iig. 1, to prevent its dropping downv upon the stool, and interfering with the operation of the blind when the latter is open. Having thus described my invention,
XV-hat I claim as new, and desire to secure by Let-` 1. llhe blind-.fastenen consist-ing of the casing H,
angular arm and catch lB. B', adapted to shut over tho counter-catchC, and the spring I within the casing,
