Be it known that I, DUNcAN Mawoms Russiiu., a subject of the King of Great llritain, residing at Picton, in the county of liuerfano and tate of Colorado, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Combined Locks and Latclies, of which the following is a specification, reference being had to the accompanying drawghis invention comprehends certain new and useful improvements in combined locks and latches and the invention has for its primary object a simple and eiiicient construction of lock, the parts of which may be easily manufactured and readily assem led and not liable to get out of o er.

Should a person not acquainted with the proper position endeavor to operate the loc by using the key, he would naturally, after inserting the key in the sleeve continue turning the key in screw threaded en agement with the sleeve until the roll bac 20 is pressed back out of the recess 18 and is caught by the catch 28 which holds it in inoperative relation to the bolt 8. Then the operator would be obli d to know how to release the catch before e could operate the lock.' To do this he would have to know just where to turn the key so 'as' to cause the projection 48 to enga the` cam 80 of the catch when the key is bein withdrawn, as otherwise, the catch woul remain inten gement with the roll back and hold the la ter inan inoperatire position. died at a small cost to the owner. Should the owner desire to change his lock, it is obvious that he can easily do so merely by suostitutin one roll buca for another and changing t ie rod 87 to match the openings of the new roll back.
lVhat I claim is 1. A lock of the character described, including a casing, a latch bolt mounted therein a roll back engageable with the latch bolt to move the latter, a key engageable with said roll back to turn the same, the roll back being movable into an operative relation to the latch bolt` a catch adapted to cngage and hold the rollback in its inoperal ive position, and means for disengagiug the catch from the roll back by and upon tht` withdrawing movement of the key.
2. A lock of the character described, iiicluding a casing, a latch bolt mounted therein, a rollback engageable with the latch bolt to move the latter, a ke engageable with said roll back to turn tie latter, the roll back being movable transverselv oi the movement of the latch bolt, whereby it may be moved to one side of the latch bolt into inoperative relation therewith, and a catch adapted to engage and hold thc roll back in its ino rative ositicn, the key being.,r formed with a proJection designed to (lisenga thepat'ch ,from the roll back in the` with' rawing movement of the key.

A lock of the character described, includinq a casing, atlatch bolt movable therein, a ro l back engageable with the latch belt and movable transversely of the movement o! the latch bolt, the roll back being formed with a indie extending transversely of the casing, t e easingl being formed with a bearing for said spin le, a spring encircling said spindle and bearing a ainst the roll back in a direction to move t e same automatically into operative relation with the latch bolt.,
and a catch engageable with the roll back to hold it to one side of the latch bolt upon the'movement of the roll back ii a direction against the tension of the spring.

A lock of the character described, including a casing, a latch bolt movable therein a' roll back engageable with said latch bOlt, a sleeve secured to said casiiig iii registry with the roll back, the sleeve )ein v provided with a dial and with longitin inally di osed interior ooves leading toward thc rol back, the rol back being movable in a direction transverse to the movement of the latch bolt, means within the casing engagin the roll back and tending to move it in o o erative relationto the latch bolt and towa the sleeve, a key adapted for inscrtion in said sleeve intoengagement with the roll-baekthe ke bein formed with a proit against the tensionof the spring to one side of the latch bolt, said catch being engageable with the projection of the key, for the urpose of releasing the catch from the roll ac 5. A lock of the character described, incliiding a casing, a latch bolt movable therein, a roll back engageable with the latch bolt to retract the latter, the roll back being movable in a lane transverse to the movement of the atch bolt, means tending to more the roll back outwardly in the casing into operative relation with the latch bolt, a sleeve secured to the casiniein registry with the roll back, said sleeve ing formed :it its inner ends with interior screw threads a key insertble in the sleeve and forme with threads for engagement with the screw threads of thc sleeve and with means for engagement with the roll back to turn the latter, a catch member in the casing and adapted to engage the roll back to hold it out of line with the latch bolt said catch being secured to the sleeve and ormed with an intermediate cam portion and the key being formed with a projection en geable with the cam portion, whereby to re ease the catch from the roll back'.
6. A lock of the character described, in-
cluding a. casing, a latch bolt movable therein, a roll back engageable with the latch bolt to retract the latter, the roll back being movable in a plane transverse to the movement of the latch bolt, a spring mounted in the easing and engaging said roll haek and havin a tension thereon to move the roll back into operative relation with the latch bolt, a catch secured in the casing and adapted to engage and hold the roll back 1i 0n the movement of the latter out of a inement with the latch bolt, a sleeve secured to the casing and in registry with the rollback, a key insertble in said sleeve and formed with pins for engagement with the roll back and with a rojection, the sleeve and key being threased for engagement with each other, the projection of the key bein adapted to release the catch from the roll ack, and a spring pressed rod included in the key and carrying said pins, for the purpose specified.
