IINITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
ALBERT H. MANN, 0F SUNDANCE, WYOMING.
STIL'I'.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, ALBERT I-I. MANN, citizen of the United States, residing at Sundance, in the county of Crook and State of lVyoming, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Stilts, of which the following is a specification.
The present invention relates to stilts.
An important object of this invent-ion is to provide a stilt which is simple in construction and includes novel means whereby the foot-rest may be adjusted longitudinally of the upright of the stilt.
A further object of the invention is to provide a stilt formed of few and simple parts which may be easily separated for the purpose of repairing or the like.
Other objects and advantages of this invention will be apparent during the course of the following description.
In the accompanying drawings forming a part of this specification and in which like numerals are employed to designate like parts throughout the same, Figure 1 is a front elevation of the stilt, Fig. 2 is a side elevation of the same, Fig. 3 is a plan view of the same, Fig. 4 is a section taken on line t4- of Fig. 1, and, Fig. 5 is a section taken on line 55 of Fig. 1.
In the drawings wherein is illustrated a preferred embodiment of my invention, the numeral 1 designates an upright, preferably cylindrical and having at its lower end a reduced screw-threaded portion 2, to engage in a central opening formed through a foot 3, as shown.
The numeral 4 designates a bracket which may be moved longitudinally of the upright 1 and clamped to the same in adjustment at different positions, by means to be described. The horizontal end portion of this bracket are provided with semi-cylindrical openings 5 for receiving the upright 1, as shown. The upright 1 passes through eye bolts 6 and 7, as shown. The eye-bolt 6 passes through an opening in the upper portion of the bracket 4. and carries a clamping nut 8. The eye bolt 7 passes through the lower portion of the bracket 4 and it is provided outwardly of the same with a clamping nut 9. The eye-bolts 6 and 7 are horizontally disposed, and the eye-bolt 8 has a strap or leaf v10 hinged thereto,

which is rigidly connected with the lower surface of the foot-rest 11, as shown. This foot-rest comprises a heel 12 and sole 13, which are connected by ashoulder 14:, as shown.
In use, the bracket A may be moved longitudinally of the upright 1 to assume a desired position with relation to the upright 1, subsequently to which it is clamped to this upright upon proper turning of the nuts 8 and 9. The operator places his foot on the foot-rest 11, which foot-rest is free to swing in a substantially vertical plane. It is obvious that the bracket 4:, foot-rest 11, and the eye-bolts 6 and 7 may be easily separated and removed from the upright 1.
It is to be understood that the form of my invention herein shown and described is to be taken as a preferred example of the same and that certain changes may be made in the size, shape and arrangement of parts without departing from the spirit of my invention or the scope of the subjoined claims.
Having thus described my invention, I claim:
1. A stilt of the character described, com prising an upright, an open bracket having its end portions provided with notches to receive said upright, eye -bolts surrounding the upright and connected with said bracket, and a foot-rest pivotally connected with one of said eye-bolts.
2. A stilt of the character described, comprising a substantially cylindrical upright, a foot detachably connected with the lower end of the upright, an open bracket having its end portions provided with notches for receiving the upright, eye -bolts' receiving the upright and passing through upper and lower portions of the open bracket, nuts carried by said eye bolts outwardly of the bracket, and a foot-rest pivotally connected with the lower eye-bolt to swing in a substantial vertical plane, said foot-rest comprising heel and sole supports connected by a shoulder.
In testimony whereof I aifix my signature in presence of two witnesses.
ALBERT H. MANN.
