HORSE-COLLAR CLAMP.

To all whom it may concern:

Be it known that I, TRAUGOTT Voro'r, a citizen of the United States, and resident of Milwaukee, in the county of Milwaukee and State of Visconsin, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Horse-Collar Clamps; and I do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description thereof.

My invention consists in what is herein particularly set forth with reference to the accompanying drawings and pointed out in the claims of this specification, its object being to provide simple, economical, strong, durable and efficient clamps for use in connection with ordinary vises to hold horsecollars while the same are being repaired, the jaws of each clamp being integral with pivot-ally connected shanks and having gripping edges of contours approximating those of grooves in opposite sides of the throatend of a horse-collar upon which said jaws are designed to have a shearing-grip under vise-pressure.

Figure 1 of the drawings represents a partly sectional elevation of a clamp in accordance with my invention gripping a patch-piece of leather on the throat-end of a horse-collar, said patch-piece and a fragment of the collar being shown in section. Fig. 2 of said drawings represents a perspective view of the clamp.

Referring by numerals to the drawings, 3 indicates the inner jaw and 4 the outer jaw of the herein described clamp, and 3, 4, the shanks of the respective jaws. The shank 3' is provided with an angular shoulder lug 5 designed to rest upon a jaw of an ordinary vise, and the shank 4 is upwardly bowed to provide for horse-collar clearance and to form a shoulder 6 designed to rest upon the other jaw of said vise. The shank 3 is also provided with a recessed outwardly extending foot 7, and a lower inwardly extending ear 8 of the shank 4c is pivoted in the recess of said foot on a pin 9 that is upset at its ends or otherwise secured. in place.

The elevation of the jaw 4 is greater than that of the jaw 3, and said jaw 4 is the movable one of the clamp under vise-pressure. The gripping-edges of the

grooves in opposite sides of the throat-end of a horse-collar with which they are engaged under vise-pressure, and because of the difference in elevation of said jaws, a shearing grip is eifected upon the collar.

In Fig. 1, is shown a leather patch-piece 1O encompassing the throat-end of a horsecollar 11 interposed between the jaws 3, 4:, of the clamp, and it will be observed that the patch-piece is fitted snugly in the collargrooves, by the action of said jaws, to be subsequently secured by stitching, stapling or other suitable means.

The clamp-jaws being integral with their shanks, they are not liable to fracture under pressure when engaged with a horse-collar, this being an important feature of my invention.

I claim:

1. A clamp having jaws thereof at different elevations and integral with pivotally connected shanks designed for sup port upon the jaws of an ordinary vise, the gripping edges of the clamp-jaws being curved to approximate the contours of grooves in opposite sides of the throat-end of a horse-collar.

2. A. clamp having an inner jaw integral with a shank that is provided vwfith an angular shoulder designed to rest upona jaw of an ordinary vise and with an out wardly extending recessed foot, an outer jaw that has a greater elevation than the one aforesaid and is integral with an up wardly bowed shank having an inwardly extending ear engaging the recess of said foot, and a pivot-pin by which said ear is secured in. connection with the aforesaid foot, the bow of said outer jaw-shank being for horse-collar clearance and to form a shoulder designed to rest upon the other Copies of this patent may be obtained for five cents each, by addressing the Commissioner 01' Eatents, Washington, D.
