SPRINKLER.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Aug. 27, 1912.
Application filed September 19, 1911. Serial No. 850,114.
To all whom. t may concern Be it known that l, CHARLES H. BUSCH, a citizen of the United -States, residing at Kenosha, in the county of Kenosha and State of lWisconsin, have invented new and useful Improvements in Sprinklers, of 'wl'ii ch the following is a specification.
.My invention relates particularly to sprinklers adapted for sprinkling lawns and gardens; and my primary object is to provide a device of exceedingly simple characteradapted to bemanufactured. at small cost and thoroughly effective for its purpose.
The device is shown in its preferred emin the accompanying drawing, which illustrates the salme by a` sectional view, the. supporting rod or standard being shown brokenly. l y,
The device comprises a cast metah, hollow head or member l; a surmounting sheet metal lmember 2; and a sheet metal union 3 connected with the base portion of the member l. The member l is dformed with a contracted throat portion 4 having a re duced extension 5 with which the member 3 is connected. The upper or outlet end of the member Il1 is Haring or enlarged andI is equipped at its mouth with an external bead or iange 6. The member 2 is stamped int'o approximately hemispherical form and is provided.. With an outwardly extending liange 7 'which is curved downwardly and clenched about the bead. or flange 6. Said member 2 is provided With a series of peradapted to produce circular series of jets of Water.
The member 3 may be stamped of sheet metal, being formed in this operation into tubular form, but provided with a helical corrugation 9, forming athread into which the threaded nipple of a hose may be screwed. The inner end of the member 3 is .provided with an int-urned flange 10 which is re-curved, as shown at 11. The Flange ll encircles the reduced portion 5 of the. member 1; and thc end portion ofthe part 5- is spun outwardly, as indicated at 12, to engage the flange 11. Thus a secure connection is aorded.
The member 1 has aA lug 13 cast on its base port-ion, preferably at the outer or convex side of the throat 4; and through the medium of said lug, the device is mounted on a. stake or standard 14:, which4 is adapted to be thrust into the ground to support tbe device in any desiredvposition, while the sprinkling operation is being performed.
The device described is exceedingly simple, may be manufactured cheaply, and performs admirably the function for which it was devised.
It is preferred to make the tip 2 either of galvanized sheet-metal or brass; and the member 3 may be made of brass or galvanized sheet metal, preferably brass, While 'the member 1 may be of cast iron.
` What .l regard as new and desire to se' cure by"Letters Patent is- 1. A s'praying-device for attachment to a. hose, comprising a hollowucast metal memberglfqlajying a throat portion. equipped with a rednced extension disposed. at an obtuse angle to the laxis of the head portion of said member and having an upper end equipped externally with a iangc, a tubular member having a spiral corrugation affording a thread for a hose 'onnection and having'at its inner en an inturned ange having spun connectlon with said reduced `exten sion ofsaid first-named member, and a perforated sheet metal tip-member having' a ange embracingthe` flange of said firstnamed member.
2. A spraying device for attachment to `a hose, comprising a hollow member having a throat portion `reduced adjacent its lower' end, and having its front wall' and a portion of its rear Wall disposed on a. curve coincident with the line of the entering stream of Water, the remaining portion of the rear wall being reversely curved to provide an enlarged chamber adjacent' the point of die` charge, and a spraying tip `seated on the` discharge end of said device.
CHARLES H. BUSCH.' In presence of- JOHN ZENs,
HERMAN Bnooxmms.
