Description

ZKM.
N. PETERS. PHOTO UTHOGRAPH HENRY H. LOCKE, OF PLEASANTVILLE, PENNSYLVANIA.
Leiters Patent No. 108,632, dated May 3l, 1870.
g IMPROVEMENT IN VPUMP-ROD ATTACHMNTS.
The Schedule referred to in these Letters Patent and makingl part of the-eame To all whom it may concern Be it known that I, HENRY H.Loc1in, of the borough of Pleasantville, county of Venango and State of Pennsylvania, have invented a certain new and improved Pump-rod Attachment; and I do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description thereof, reference being had to the accompanying drawing, which'forms a part of this Specification, and in which- Figure l is a front view of the device;
Figure 2, a horizontal section n line A B; and
Figure 3, a detached view.
In pumping artesian wells it is frequently necessay to adjust the lengt-h of the pump-rod with relation to the lower valve, which adjustment, can be most readily etfected at the point where the rod is attached to the working-beam.
'lhe object of my invention is to provide such a Inode of attachment that the rods can he adjusted with the least possible loss of time, and he held perfectly secure in any desired position.
In the drawinga representsa T-shaped cross-head, to which the pump-rod b is attached, said cross-head having two turned bearings c c, which t into boxes attached to the end of the working-beam, and allow of the necessary oscillation at different points of the stroke.
The pump-rod b passes through a hole drilled through the center of the cross-head u., and is made of suicient length to allow of the necessary adjustment. n
A hole is cored or drilled through the center of the cross-head a, at right angles with the rod l), and with a shoulder. .there-in, as shown in g.i 2, into which hole the slotted bolt orkey d is inserted.
Said key (Z is made with a tapering slot, e, and pin f, and prpvided with a nut, g, all as shown in detail in fig. o. Y
The bolt or key d being inserted in its place, as shown in fig. 2, the rod l) is passed through it and the cross-head, when, by tightening or screwing up the nut g, the rod is gripped and held rmly by and between' the inner tapering or wedging snrtlce of the slot e and the cross-head.
rlhe rod I) may be readily slipped np or-down in the cross-head, bysimply loosening the nutgand key d, and held at any desired point by tightening the same. -v
Having thus described my improvement, lVhatI claim as-myninrvention, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is
The cross-head a, rod b, slotted bolt or key d, and nut g, combined and arranged substantially as and for the purposes set forth.
