COMBINEIT'TDOOR AND SHOW-CASE.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Application filed October 17,
iaten ted Aug. ti, i932.
1911. Serial No. 855,150.
To (1/! whom to my concern.-
Be it, known that I, :lirrnun L. JOHNSON, a citizen of the United States, and a resident of St. Ietershurg, in the county of vented a new and improved Combined Door and Show-(Else, of which the following is a full. clear. and exact description.
My invention relates to a combined iloor and show case, and it comprises a show case attachment for a store door, to enable the door to be usedfor the purpose of exhibiting samples of the merchants stock, thus saving, the space which is usually devoted to show cases when placed upon the counters of the' store. and increasing the amount of Reference is to be had to the accompanylng drawings forming a part of this spec:- fication, in which the same. characters of views.
Figure 1 is a rear elei'ation of a store door having my show case in place thereon. Fig. 2 is a vertical section on the line 2-2 of Fig. l; and Fig. 3 is a horizontal section on the line 3-3 of Fig. 1.
On the drawin the numeral 1 is the door frame, in w ich is hungthe door attached to the same by hinges in the usual way. This door 2 carries a pane of glass 23, fitted to the door in a central opening therethrough; and the deer 2 also carries a show case shown at at, secured to the rear face thereof. This case 4 is of substantially the same Width as the opening containing the pane of glass 3'. but-of somewhat less height, but obviously I may make it equal in height to the height of the pane of glass 3, it' desired. Its sides, bottom and top may be made of Wood or metal or any other suitable material, and it will be of such width as 3, and serve in lieu of retaining strips at the bottom and the lower'part of the lateral edges of the filass 3 upon the rear face there of, to hold t e glass 3 in place. Retaining; strips shown at 3 are-used on the door in front of the glass 3, and behind the 3, above the show case 4.
- The show case 4 has a. rear door consisting of a frame in which is mounted a pane of glass or other transparent material 3 and it contains a number of shelves 6, of glass, supported by lugs 7 extending inward from the sides. By using glass in the construction of. the case 4 in this way, the articles "placed therein on exhibition can be viewed of the case to hold the latter in position.
The ease of course moves with the door, but access to the former can be obtained at any time to remove and replace articles contained therein, merely by opening the rear door 5. The edge ofthe door opposite the hinged edge 9 will of course be provided won. a suitable catch to hold the door shut.
The utility of my combined door and srzow case will be apparent. ll is well known that. in small shopsa great deal of space on the counters must he devoted to show cases and exhibition stands, and the space placed at the disposal of the owners for the show ndows in front of the stores is very often iusulticient. ii nibans of my combined show ease and door I am enabled to save a good deal ol spat-e whieh is ordinarily used for exhibition, purposes, and at the same time to increase the gross amount of space at the ttlisposat. of the merchant for this purpose, by enabling him to utilize a part of his equipmeatv which is not ordinarily einpioyed for exhibiting and advertising his goods.
I'taving thus described my invention, I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent:
In an improvement of the hind described, the combination of a door having an opening therethrongh, a pane of glass mounted in said opening, means secured to said door within said opening, and engaging the said pane of glass along); its edgeaon one face thereof, to retain the same in place, a show case secured to the ori site ace of said door, said show name being}; oi a width to. fit within said opening, and being; of less height than said opening, means setmretfl to' said door and engaging the opposite 't'ace oiihe said' pane of glass around the edges thereof above the show ease and au le )lat'esYseeured to l t) i :3 side eges thereof below the last-named enthe (1001' and the showcase at time sides and In testimony wnereof I have signed my bottom of the latter for fastening said show name to this specification in the presence of case in position, said. sh0w case enfmgixvlg two subscribing Witnesses.
