citizen of the United States, residing at Pittsburg, in the county of Crawford and State of Kansas, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in VVagon-Boxes; and I do declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.
The invention relates to wagon-boxes.
The object of the invention is to provide a wagon-box which shall be simple of construction, durable in use, and comparatively inexpensive of production and one which has its sides constructed in three sections, the center section and endgates so constructed that they may be readily and easily removed in order to facilitate in loading and unloading the box from the ends or side sectional openings. Not only are the side sections and ends of box constructed so as to be easily removed, but so constructed as to be easily and rapidly replaced.
With this and other objects in view the invention consists of certain novel features of construction, combination, and arrangement of parts, which will be hereinafter more fully described, and particularly pointed out in the appended claim.
In the accompanying drawings, Figure 1 is a top plan view of the whole box. Fig. 4.- is side view of entire box. Fig. 2 is a detailed perspective view with part cut away showing manner in which the lower bed of center sections of sides of box are engaged with the outer sect-ions. Fig. 3 is a detailed view with parts cut away showing construction and manner of fastening the ends of box in relation to sides of box.

16, 18, 19 and 21 are the upper side box end sections engaging end-gates and sidegates similar to end-gates and sidegates in lower box, which are fully described in detail in the parts described in Figs. 2 and 3 and their connections, which is set forth more specifically in the description of parts 25, 27, 2c, 51, 4A, 52 and 53.
17 and 20 are upper bed side-gates engaging with outer sections of sides as shown in Fig.2.
22 and 23 are metal projections firmly fastened to upper end-gate, 15, extending downward fitting closely against the inner side of lower end-gates which holds top box from sliding. Both ends are equipped the same.
24-, 25, 26 and 27 are metal slide channels all of the same construction. See Fig. 2. These metal slide channels engage with the outer sections of the sides of box making the sides firm when slipped into place engaging parts as before mentioned.
28, 29, 30, 31, 32, 33, 34 and 35 are the clamp fasteners holding top box in place.
The thumb bolts of the clamp fasteners, 28, 2-9, 30, 31, 32, 33, 34: and 35, holding the top box as above mentioned, pass through the clasp iron then through an opening provided by cutting away one half the area of the circle desired, from each the top box and the lower side bed.
36 and 37 show brace irons supporting the sides 9 and 13. See Fig. 4. Opposite sides of box structure the same. These irons are shaped to give bracing power.
38 is a right-angled iron fastened firmly to the bottom of box and the upper port-ion extending up equal to the thickness of the bed of the wagon-box which strengthens the box not allowing the bed to spring and thereby bind the side-gates when the box is loaded. By this means of strengthening the wagon-bed in connection with brace irons, 36 and 37, the side-gates can easily be removed whether the center of box is loaded heavily or not.
39 is a hook and eye rod fastened to lower side-gates preventing them from spreading when the box is loaded with such material as sand, gravel, coal, etc.
40, 41, 42- and 4-3 are guide irons forming a channel Which engages with outer sectionsof top box, both sides of box equipped-the same. See Fig. 4.
4A, 45, 46 and 47 are key bolts keying end-z gates to sides, both ends of box equipped the same. See Fig. 3.
48, 4:9 and 50 are metal strips fastened to ends of side sections and end-gates strenthening the engaging ends, all com-j .panlon pieces equ1pped thesame. 1 51 1s a flange shaped 1ron fastenedto'the ends of side box parts.
52 is an iron slide clasp firmly fastened to the end-gate which holds the end-gates in position and When removing or replacing end-gates engages and slides upon flange 51. See Fig. 3.
44 1s a key pin with a link o1nt, the link being the size of rod passing through 52, end-gate and flange part of 51. The protruding end of link pin, when pin is in position, by gravitytakes a position at right angles to the opening through which the pin passes and thereby keeps the key pin in -its proper position. See'Fig. 3.
