PLOW.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Application filed October 4, 1911.
Patented July 30, 1912.
Serial No. 652,723.
To all whom it may concern Be it known that I, JAMES T. GANTT, a citizen of the United States, residing at Macon, in the county of Bibb and State of Georgia, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Plows; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.
This invention relates to plows and has for an object to provide improved means for attaching a landside in engagement with the frog and point.
A further object of the invention is to provide a frog having a rib adapted to engage the upper edge of a landside and a lug extending outwardly to form a notch between the landside and the point and a landside having a pointed forward end proportioned to engage and be retained in the notch.
With these and other objects in View the invention comprises certain novel constructions, combinations and arrangements of parts as will be hereinafter more fully described and claimed.
In the drawings :F igure 1 is a perspective view of a plow embodying the present invention. Fig. 2 is a view in side elevation of a frog, point and mold-board with the landside removed. Fig. 3 is a sectional view taken on line 33 of Fig. 2 showing the for mation of the landside-engaging pocket. Fig. 4. is a perspective view of the landside. Fig. 5 is a sectional view taken on line 5-5 of Fig. 4:. Fig. 6 is a perspective view of the landside of the frog, with the landside, shin and share shown in dotted lines. Fig. 7 is a fragmentary inverted plan View of the frog showing the lug with the undercut side.
Like characters of reference indicate corresponding parts throughout the several views.
The present invention embodies a frog 10 having a rib 11 positioned to engage the upper edge of a landside 12, such landside being preferably provided with a cut-out portion 13 to interengage with such rib. The frog 10 is further provided with a lug 14 which extends outwardly therefrom and forms a pocket 15 to engage the pointed forward end 16 of the landside so that such landside is held in position by a single bolt 17 inserted therethrough, the rib 11 and the lug 14 tending to hold the landside from angular misplacement.
I claim 1. In a plow, a frog provided at its forward end with a lug extending outwardly from the point at the landside, a shin carried upon the point having a portion overhanging the landside of the frog in engagement and flush with the lug and forming a V-shaped recess between the shin and lug, and a landside having a pointed forward end inserted between the shin and lug and secured to the landside of the frog.
2. In a plow, a frog having a lug eXtend ing outwardly from its landside, a shin secured to the lug and overhanging the frog in contact and flush with the lug and forming with the lug a V-shaped undercut recess, a landside having a V-shaped beveled forward end proportioned to be inserted in the V-shaped recess, and means to secure the landside to the landside of the frog.
In testimony whereof I afiix my signature in presence of two witnesses.
JAMES T. GANTT.
