citizens of the United States, residing in the city and county of Philadelphia, State of Pennsylvania, have invented a new and useful Fastening Device for Trousers or Similar Articles, of which the following 18 a specification.

It further consists of a novel construction of fastening device for trousers and the like, wherein the waist portion of the trousers is with oppositely located slits or openings, the front portion having secured thereto the tape to which the ends of the belt are connected, said belt passing around roller bearings fixedly carried by the rear portion of the trousers and then fipassing through pockets and the ends of e belt being secured together by means of a fastening device of any desired or conventional type.

Special attention is directed tot-he fact that the roller bearings are located in close proximity to the belt pockets, the result of which is that the flaps on both the front and rear portion of the trousers are drawn into very close engagement with each other when the belt is fastened. It will be apparent that when the belt is tightened, the result will be to draw the front portion of the trousers rearwardly and the rear portion forwardly, thus insuring a. very snug fit without necessitating the folding and doubling of any portions of the trousers.

' e are aware that it has heretofore been Morton, No. 916,577, patented March 30th, 1909, to provide two separate belt portions which serve as a means of fastening the pockets and wherein the slack portion is folded into the pockets, but our invention is widely differentiated from such a construction and to such a construction and the constructions of the prior art, we make no claim, since the belt members in our device pass in a novel manner through a novel construction of belt pockets which accurately guide the belt members in their movements and owing to the location of the roller bearings with respect to the belt pockets, theinner and outer flaps are brought closer together and there is no folding of the trousers or other parts of the material, and since the roller bearings are carried at the ends of a tape fastened directly to the rear portion of strong and substantial construction 'is provided, and there is noliability of the same becoming stretched or torn.

It will now be apparent that we have devised-a novel and use construction of a fastening device for trousers or similar articles, which embodies the features of advantage enumerated as desirable in the statement of the invention and the above reliable results, it is to description, and while we have, in the presentinstance, shown and described a preferred embodiment thereof which has been found in practice to give'satisfactory and be understood that the same is susceptible of modification, in various particulars without departing from the spirit or scope of the invention or sacrificing any of its advantages.

In a device of the character stated, the combination with trousers having side slits at the hip portion on opposite sides thereof, thereby forming front and rear portions with overlapping side flaps, belt pockets on opposite sides of the rear portion near the forward ends thereof, bearing members each secured to said rear portion in proximity to the rear end of the pocket adjacent thereto, a belt member passing through each pocket and around the adjacent bearing member and having one end fixed to the adjacent side flap of the front portion, and a fastening device secured to one belt member and cooperating with the other belt member to maintain the front and rear portions in adjustable position without .producing any folds in the trousers.

2. In a device of the character stated, the combination with trousers having side openings forming front and rear portions with side flaps, the flaps on the rear portion having belt guiding means, a tape extending Having thus described our invention,

In a device of the character stated, the combination with trousers having side openings forming front and rear portions with side flaps, the fiaps on the rear port on having belt guiding means, a tape extending around the rear portion and secured thereto and terminating in proximity to said guiding means, a roller bearing secured at each end of the tape, a belt member passing through each guiding means and around the roller bearing in proximity thereto and fixed at one end to the flaps on the front portion, belt guiding straps on the front portion, and means for fastening together the ends of the belt members.
