BRACKET FOR WINDOW-SHADES.

To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that we, THEODORE Grimes and BENNIE MoLINE, citizens of the United States, residing at Council Bluffs, in the county of Pottawattamie and State of Iowa, have invented new and useful Improvements in Brackets for Window-Shades, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to certain novel improvements in brackets for window shades.
In carrying out our invention it is our purpose to provide a simple and effective means which is adapted to be attached to the casing of a window frame and which is further adapted to support the trunnions of a curtain as well as to accommodate itself to the various lengths of shade rollers.
We also aim to provide a device of this character which comprises two parts, which is simple in construction, cheap to manufacture and which may be readily applied to or removed from a window casing.
For the purpose of explaining the invention the accompanying drawing illustrates a satisfactory reduction of the same to practice, but the important instrumentalities thereof may be varied, and so it is to be understood that the invention is not limited to the specific arrangement and organization shown and described.
In the drawing, Figure 1 is a perspective view of a window casing provided with the improvement. Fig. 2 is a detail central longitudinal sectional view taken through the portion of the casing and through the improvement. Fig. 3 is a transverse sectional view taken upon the line 3-8 of Fig. 2. Fig. 4: is a detail perspective view of one of the brackets. Fig. 5 is a similar view of one of the rails for the brackets. Fig. 6 is a blank view of the plate from which one of the brackets is formed. Fig. 7 is a longitudinal sectional View of the bracket.
Referring now to the drawing in detail the numeral 1 designates a window casing. The casing l is provided at its top and adjacent its corners with what we term a track 2. This track is constructed of a single bar of suitable material and is approximately semi-cylindrical in cross section. The bar comprising the track 2 is provided with a plurality of openings. Two of the said openings being adapted to receive securing elements such as tacks 3 whereby the track is sustained upon the casing. The remainder of the openings are threaded to sustain headed threaded elements 4c the purpose of which will presently be set forth.
7 The numeral 5 designates one of the brackets as a whole. The bracket, as illustrated in Fig. 5 of the drawing is constructed of a blank of suitable material, said blank comprising what we term a body 6, having an extending portion 7 which is bent at a right angle to the said body and which has its outer extremities slotted in opposite directions to provide the depressed portions 8 and 9 for the reception of the pintles or trunnions 10 of the shade 11. The body 6 is provided with a centrally arranged longitudinally extending bulging portion 12, the same being approximately semi-cylindrical in cross section. This bulging portion is of a size sufficient to snugly engage with the track 2 and the said bulging portion is provided with an elongated opening or slot 13, the said slot adapted to disclose at least one of the threaded openings of the track when the bracket is arranged upon the track. The headed members 4: are adapted to pass through the said slot and engaging within the threaded openings of the same retaining the bracket in a longitudinally adjusted position with relation to the window casing. It will be noted by reference to the sectional figures of the drawing that the right angularly arranged portion provided by the extension 7 is formed with a lip 14, the latter projecting within the way formed by the bulging portion 12, and this lip is adapted, when the bracket is compressed upon the track to tightly engage with the said track and to offer an additional sustaining member.
Having thus described the invention what we claim is The combination with a window casing, of a track secured upon said casing and said track comprising a bar which is substantially semi-cylindrical in cross section said bar being provided with a plurality of threaded depressions, a bracket, said bracket being constructed of a single piece of material and comprising a body portion which has one of its extremities bent to provide a shade engaging portion, the body portion being centrally provided with a 1ongitudinally extending bulging portion, which is substantially semi-cylindrical in cross section and which is adapted to engage with the track, the said bulging portion being formed with a longitudinally extending slot,
headed threaded elements adapted to pass through the said slots and engage with the threaded depressions of the track and to Contact with the bulging portion of the body, and the oflset portion of the body being provided with a depending lip which projects below the upper wall of the bulging portion and contacts with the track.
