ABRAHAM P. LUBELL, OF NEW YORK, N. Y.
BLOUSE.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented July 30, 1912.
Application filed December 11, 1911. Serial No. 664,924.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, ABRAHAM P. LUBELL, a citizen of the United States of America, and a resident of the city of New York, borough of Manhattan, county and State of New York, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Blouses, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to blouses which are provided with shirring strings for adjusting the bottom of the blouse around the waist of the wearer.
The object of the invention is to provide a blouse of this character in which the pull of the drawing strings is equalized and the free ends thereof symmetrically disposed and protected from accidental untying.
In the accompanying drawings Figure 1 shows a front view of my improved blouse with the front portion thereof bent backwardly so as to enable my improved means to be readily visible, and Fig. 2 is an enlarged view of my improved means.
Similar reference characters indicate cor responding parts throughout the several figures of the drawing.
Referring to the drawings, the blouse 10 is provided with suitable buttons 11 at the front thereof engaging corresponding button holes with the button 12 at the lowermost end adapted to engage the button hole 13 also at the lowermost end and in a position corresponding to the button 12. The bottom of the blouse is provided with a hollow hem 14 in which two tapes or shirring strings are inclosed, by means of which my improved blouse may be shirred around the waist of the wearer. This tubular hem is provided with an opening 14 preferably lo cated at the back of the blouse and preferably on the inner face thereof. One end 15 of one tape is fixed to the front end of the blouse and one end 16 of the other tape is fixed to the other front end of the blouse and these strings extend along the bottom of the blouse inclosed within the hem to the rear part thereof and their free ends are exposed through said rear opening 14 substantially diametrically opposite to the front ends.
The blouse is provided at its lower edge adjacent to the opening 14 with a flap l7 fastened by lines of stitching as 18 or otherwise to one face of the garment and having its free end dependent below the lower edge thereof and adapted to fold under the lower edge of the garment and upward over the opposite face thereof, covering the opening 14 and the bowed free ends of the drawing strings. Means are provided for detachably securing the upwardly folded free end of the flap 17 to the inner face of the garment. The means shown for this purpose consist of buttons 22, 23 and 24 attached to the garment and button holes 19, 20 and 21 formed in the flap.
In the use of this device the free ends of the shirring strings 15 and 16 are drawn to the proper tension after the garment is put on and tied in a bow-knot, then the free end of theflap 17 is turned upward under the lower edge of the garment and buttoned onto the body thereof above said lower edge. The flap thus covers the bow-knot and protects it against accidental untying. The flap may also be closed in this manner when the blouse is to be laundried.
I claim:
A blouse having a tubular hem at its lower edge extending around the blouse from the front edges thereof and provided with an opening on its inner face at the back, a covering flap secured to the outer face of said blouse at the lower end thereof and adapted to fold over said rear opening, and means for fastening said flap on the inner face of said blouse above said rear opening.
In testimony, that I claim the foregoing as my invention, I have signed my name in presence of two subscribing witnesses.
ABRAHAM P. LUBELL.
Witnesses:
JOHN MUn'rAoH, L. J. MURPHY.
