Letters Patent No. 103,405, (lated May 24, 1870.
IMPROVED WASHINGMACHINE. A
'IA'he Schedule referred to in these Letters Patent and making part of the same.
To all lwhom fit may concern Be it known that I, CHA-mms P WLNsLoW, of Westborough, in the county of Worcester and State of Massachusetts, have invented a certain new and useful Improvement in lVashing- Iachines, of which the following is a complete specification;
Nal'ure'and Object of the I mention.
` The nature ofA my invention-consists in the comi billing with a vibrating disk of a washing-machine, `a
segmental pump, so arranged that the following obtub, also showing the tixed arms H'Hl H3, which form a part of the segmental pump. l
Figure 3 is a plan .of the agitating disk, showing by dotted lines, ,the tixed arms H Hl Hzand the moving arms M Ml M2, which, together with the bottom ot' the tub and the disk, form the segmental pump.
\ General Description.
A B is a tub, made in the usual manner, and is provided with al cover, C, whichf may be held rmly in place by means of the cross-bar Caud the handle of the tub, or in-any other suitable manner.
' H H Hg. 2, represent a ythree-armed' pice, which-is fitted snugly to the-bottom of the tub, and
so arranged that it will remain stationary.
At'thc'juncton of these three arms a socket, K g. 2, is formed. l
D is a spindle, passing through vthe cover C, fig. I, and resting in the socket K, fig'. 2; to this spindle the agitating disk E is' attached, andis provided with radial arms or projections F F', &c., ou its upper side.
Itis also perforated, as shown, some 'of the perforatious passing through'the arms F F', &c.
`This disk is so arranged that, when it is. oscillated, it slides back and forth, its lower surface being in contact with the fixed arms H H]l H2, while the arms M M1 M2, attached to its lower surface, vibrate between' the -fixed arms, thus forming 'three segmental pumps.
These pum ps acting alternately to draw the water down from above the disk, and then to forciblyA eject it up through the disk, that is, if the moving arm M2, g. 3, is moving in the direction indicated by the arrow,- all the water between it and the fixed arm Hz will be ejected, whilethe space S', between Mzand the fixed arin H",'will form a suction-chamber for drawing the water down.
Claim.
What I claim as'iny invention is Combining with the vibrating'diskEthe segment l pumps, composed of parts M H,Ml H1, and M2 H,
or their equivalents, substantially as described, and for the purpose set forth. Y CHARLES 'P. WINSLOW.
Witnesses FRANK G. PARKER, E. 'A. NIcKEnsoN.
