To all whom it may concern Be itknown that I, VILLIAMJ. Olm, a citizen of the United States, residing at Bangor, in the county of Penobscot and State of Maine, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Locomotive Coal-Sprayers, of which the following is a specification, reference being had to the accompanying drawings.
This invention comprehends .certain new and useful improvements in sprayers and relates more particularly to sprayers for use in dampening coal on locomotive tenders.
The primary object of the invention is to provide a sprayer of this nature which shall be simple in construction and especiallyr adapted to the work in question.
At the present time it is customary for the fireman on a locomotive to spray water over companying drawing, in which-- the coal on the tender to prevent the coal blowing away and being wasted and also to prevent it blowing into the eyes of the engineer and fireman. This necessary operation is now done by using ahose similar to a garden hose, which takes much of the firemans valuable time. My invention is de signed to relievev the ireman. of this unnecessary labor.

The 'sprayer consists of a supply pipe 2,
one end of which is connected by the coupling 3 to the hose l, and the other end of which is connected by the T-coupling 4 to the spraying pipe 5. This pipe is closed at its ends by the screw caps 6 and is provided on one side with a series of alined orifices 7 'arranged longitudinally thereof.
The sprayer is secured transversely of the forward end of the tender on a supporting member A by the cap-plates 8, which being `positioned adjacent the end caps 6 and over the spraying-pipe 5, allow said pipe to turn about its' longitudinal axis and restrain it from moving in any other direction. One of the cap-plates 8 is provided with a clamping-screw 9 which may be tightened upon the pipe 5 holding it in any desired position. Base-plates 10, vplaced. under the cap-plates 8 and spraying-pipe 5 space said pipe from the tender so that it may turn freely.
