FLEXIBLE FILM.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented July 23, 1912.
Application filed March 2, 1912. Serial No. 681,072.
To all whom, it may concern:
Be it known that I, AUcEsT W. ANDERSON, a citizen of the Dominion of Canada, residing at Vancouver, in the Province of British Columbia, Canada,- have invented a new and useful Improvement in Flexible Films, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to the form, proportions, and manner of coiling of a film or band of flexible material enabling a film to be more compactly coiled than where the same is directly wound upon rollers in the usual manner.
The invention is particularly described in the following specification, reference being made to the drawings by which it is accompanied, in which:
Figure 1 represents the band in elevation and Fig. 2, in plan.
The band 2 is formed or constructed to coil flat in a cylindrical ring. The width of the band 2 is somewhat less than the diameter of the central core 3 so that it will pass through it, as shown in the drawing. The band may be endless or not, as occasion may require, the essential feature of the invention lying in a flexible band formed as a flat circular coil, the width of the band being less than the diameter of the core. A band so constructed may be passed through the core of its own coil and may be coiled on the other side and if the two ends of the coil are connected through the core, the band may be continuously uncoiled off one face and coiled on the other. Mechanism may be used to effect the uncoiling and coiling, but this is not material to this application.
The invention has particular relation to films for use in moving picture machines of a special construction which will form the subject matter of later applications, although it is not to be considered as limited to such use, as the invention may be used wherever found desirable.
Having now particularly described this invention, I hereby declare that what I claim as new and desire to be protected in by Letters Patent, is:
1. A thin flat band formed as a coil, the flat of the band being normal to the axis of the coil, the band being passed from one side through the core of the coil, and coiled on the other side.
2. A thin flat endless band formed as a coil, the flat of the band being normal to the axis of the coil and the band passing through the core of the coil.
In testimony whereof I have signed my name to this specification in the presence of two subscribing witnesses.
AUGEST IV. ANDERSON.
