Description
- J. J."SLEEPER- WRAPPER PASTING DEVICE. APPLICATION FILED JUNE 10,1911.
Eatented July 23, 1912.
UNITED STATES PATENT OFF-ICE. P
JOSEPH J. SLEEPER OF MODE-ES, PENNSYLVANIA.
WRAPPER-PASTING DEVICE.
Specification of Letters Patent.
To all 70/20771 it may concern:
Be it known that I, JOSEPH J. SLEEPER, a citizen of the United States, residing at Moores, in the county of Delaware and State of Pennsylvania, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in rapper-Pasting Devices, of which the following 1Szt specification.
My invention relates to improvements 1n wrapper pasting devices, the object of the invention being to provide a device of this character which will supply paste to sheets as they are drawn one after another from the pile ready for wrapping.
A further object is to provide an improved construction of paste supplying trough with an improved bottom, and operating means therefor to regulate the flow of paste ontothe paper below, and provide improved means for mounting the trough, and holding the paper in position to receive the paste A further object is to provide an improved construction'of this character which enables sheets to be supplied with paste as rapidly, as they are used, and regulate and control the supply of paste to exactly suit conditions.
lVith these and other objects in view, the invention consists in certain novel features of construction and combinations and arrangements of parts, as will be more fully hereinafter described and pointed outin the claims.
In the accompanying drawings: Figurel,
is a perspective View partly broken away,
illustrating my improvements. Fig. 2, is a view in cross section through the base plate showing the trough in front elevation. Fig. 3, is a fragmentary View in longitudinalsec tion through one end of the device, and Fig.
'4, is a fragmentary view in section showing the trough in cross section.
1, represents a base plate which is provided at one edge with upwardly projecting lugs 2, against which the pile of sheets 3 isadapted to be alined. At this end of the base plate, standards 4 are secured, and metal straps 5 on the ends of my improved trough 6 receive these standards 4, and are adapted to move vertically thereon, feeding the trough downwardly as the pile of sheets becomes thinner. The trough G is adapted to contain paste, and is provided with a movable bottom 7, which controls the outlet of the paste The bottom 7 is positioned inside of a relativelythick lining 8 of rubber or other suitable material, which forms a tight closure when the bottom is in closed position. The bottom 'T is connected by rods 9 with eccentric levers 10, and the latter are pivotally connected by screws 11 with cross 'bars 12 on trough 6. By reason of this par,-
ticular form of operating means for the botare moved to the position shown in dotted lines 1n Flg. 1, the bottom will be elevated at its forward edge only, thus allowing the Patented July 23,1912. Application filed June 10, 1911. Serial No. 632,367.
tom, it will be noted that when the parts paste to feed througha relatively restricted.
outlet, while the bottomstill supports themain body of the paste. This is also an advantage in closing the trough, because when the bottom is forced downwardly, the superQ fluous paste below the bottom is squeezed up into the trough, and not outside of the trough as would otherwise be the case.
It will be noted that the forward edge of the trough is slightly higher than-the rear edge as shown at 27, so that while the sheets may be readily drawn from under the trough, the rear wall and ends of'the trough prevent the paste from feeding backwardly. To assist in supporting the weight ofthe trough, and preventing any binding of the same on the paper, rollers 13 are secured in arms 14, and the latter adjustably secured to the ends oftrough 6. These-arms are pivotallyconnecte'd at one end by means of screws 15, and are provided between their.
ends with'slots 16, through which screws 17 project, and are screwed into the end of the trough. By this means, the rollers may be variously'positioned so as to properly supporttheweight of the trough on the paper,
but allow the paper to be readily pulled from under the trough.
, On the back wall of the trough, angle brackets 18 are secured. These angle brackets supportspring-pressed pins 19, which project into the paper, and prevent the withdrawal of more than a single sheet at a time. These pins 19 project through a plurality of the sheets at the topof the pile, and when a single sheet is grasped and pulled off the pile, the other sheets below will be maintained in alinement.
To facilitate the grasping of a single'sheet,
a,bent plate 20 is secured to base plate 1 by means of screws 21, and the base plate 1 is provided with a plurality of screwthreaded openings 22, into any of which the said screws 21 may be. positioned to hold the plate 20 in the desired location This shoots fro ufnndcr dcsci ibcd .1
