To all whom 2'2 may concern Be it known that I, SAMUEL HOLSTEIN, a citizen of the United States, r siding at New York, county of New York, and State of New York, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Cabinets for Holding Phonograph or Graphophone Disk Records,-of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to cabinets for holding phonograph or graphophone disk records.
My invention relates to that class of cabinet for holding phonograph or graphophone disk records wherein separate compartments are employed for the disk records, together with means for ejecting the respective disks from their compartments, and it has for its object the provision of, first, a resilient or springy ejector adapted to cooperate with the disk or with a disk holder to eject the disk from its compartment when said springy or resilient device is bowed; second, in the provision of novel operating means for bowing the resilient ejector, such means being restored to normal position by the resiliency of the ejector when the operating means is released; third, in the provision of a novel holder in which the rec- 0rd disk may be placed and the holder then inserted in its compartment in the cabinet.
The invention is susceptible of modification, preferred forms thereof being shown in the accompanying drawings, in which- Figure 1 is a perspective of the cabinet; Fig. 2, a longitudinal section through one of the compartments showing a record disk in posit-ion and the mechanism in its usual condition, Fig. 3, a similar view showing the operating rod pushed in, the spring bowed, and the disk being forced out of its compartment; Fig. 4, a perspective detail of the spring; Fig. 5, a view like Fig. 3, showing the use of a holder for the record disk; Fig. 6, a detail of a modification showing the record disk being forced out of the compartment; Fig. 7, a View of the mechanism of Fig. 6 in normal position; Fig. 8, a-

The cabinet 1 which contains the respective disks may be as long or high as desired and the compartments 2, each adapted to hold a disk, arranged in any desired manner. The record disks 3 may be inserted directly in the compartments 2, or each one may be placed in a metal holder 4, Figs. 5 and 8, three of whose sides are composed of channel members whose grooves are of slightly greater width than the thickness of the disk 3. The fourth side of the holder is left open andthe ends of the upper and front, as shown at 8, through holes in which operate the slidable operating rods 9 which are provided with key buttons 10 bearing suitable indicia such as numbers, by which the respective compartments may be readily identified. Secured or pivoted at- 11 to some suitable part of each compartment 2 at the rear thereof, is a leaf or clock spring 12 which is of slightly less width than the width of the compartment and is of a length substantially the height of the compartment. A link 13 is pivoted to the spring 12 at 14 and to the bent end 15- of the rod 9 at 16. The link 13 is curved so that it may either bear against the rear end of the compartment 2 or, preferably, against a curved corner piece 17 in'the compartment and, preferably, the bent end 15 is curved substantially the same as the face of the corner piece 17, in consequence of which both the link 13 and the bent end 15 work against and readily conform to the corner piece 17 facilitating the bowing of the spring 12 when the rod 9 is pushed inwardly and the automatic re-setting of the parts by the expansion of the spring 12 when the pressure cushion for the disk 3 or the holder 4 so that even if the disk is used alone and is hastily shoved into its compartment, the spring 12 will cushion the impact and prevent injury to the disk. Preferably, a suitable projection 18 is provided at the back of the com-.

the button correspondin to that compartment is pushed inwar ly, whereupon the spring 12 is bowed, as shown in Figs. 3 and 5, and the given record disk is pushed 10 out of its compartment sufiiciently far for it to be readily grasped by the fingers and removed; On releasing the button 10, the spring '12 expands and restores the parts to normal position. An advantage is gamed by 15 extending the end 15 of the operating rod 9 upwardly as the leverage is thus elevated and a greater outward movement of the disk 3 is obtained with a given movement of the rod 9. Furthermore, while it is not essential to carry out my invention to employ the curved member 17, nevertheless, its cooperation with the link 13 and the end'15 tends to insure evenness of operation and greater ease in bowing the sprin 12.
I wish it understood t at in its broadest aspect my invention is not limited to any particular means for bowing the spring. I
prefer the operating means shown in Figs.
1 to 5, but in place of a sliding-rod 9, there may be employed a lever 9*, Figs. 6, 7, pivoted at 9 and having its end 9 directly connected to the spring 12.
I do not limit myself to the position of the operating device below the record disk, as it .35 may be located at the top of the compartment 2, in which event, the connection 11 would be at the bottom of the compartment and the other parts would be correspond ingly reversed. The parts would also be re 40 versed in respect of the modified construction shown in Figs. 6, 7, in the event of disposing the operating device of that modification at the top of the compartment instead of the bottom thereof.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is
1. In a cabinet for holding disk records, the combination witha receptacle for a disk record, of a leaf spring positioned for cooperation with the edge of the disk record when the latter is in the compartment, and means for bowing said spring to eject the disk record.
2. In a cabinet for holding disk records, the combination with a receptacle for a disk record, of a leaf spring positioned for cooperation with the edge of the disk record when the latter is in the compartment, and means for bowing said spring to eject the disk record, said leaf spring being adapted to re-set the means whereby it bowed.
3. In a cabinet for holding disk records, the combination with a receptacle for a disk record, of a leaf spring positioned for 'cooperation with the edge of the disk record when the latter is in the compartment, and a movable operating device connected to the free end of said leaf spring and adapted for bowing it to eject the disk record. 7
4. In a cabinet for holding disk records, the combination with a receptacle for a disk record, of a leaf spring positioned for cooperation with the edge of the disk record when the latter is in the compartment, a movable 0 rating device, and a link connecting said operating device to a free part of the 5 ring, said operating device and link being a apted to bow the spring to eject the disk record. 5. In a cabinet for holding disk records, the combination with a receptacle for a disk record, of a leafspringposit-ioned for cooperation with the edge of the disk record when the latter is in the compartment, and a s5 slidable operating device having an angularly disposed part operatively connected to a free part of the spring.
6. In a cabinet for holding disk records, the combination with a receptacle for a disk record, of a leaf spring positioned for cooperation with the edge of the disk record when the latter is in the compartment, a movable operating device having an anguv larly disposed part, and a link connecting the angularly disposed part to a free part of the spring, whereby the spring may be bowed.
7. In a cabinet for holding disk records, the combination with a receptacle for a disk record, of a leaf spring positioned for cool)- eration with the edge of the disk record when the latter is in the compartment, an inclined guide, a slidable operating device having a part disposed angularly' to its length, and a bent link connecting the said angularly disposed part with a free part of the spring, the ang'ularly disposed part of the operating device and the said link being adapted to cooperate with the guide, said operating device and link being adapted to bow the spring to eject the disk record, said spring bein adapted to re-set the operating device and link.
