ihe county of San Bernardino California, have invonled cerand nsinl .l lnprovcmeni's in En- 1928; and I do hcrchy declare lo 216 a f and exact 1 v as will 'lhe in." to which it use he same. i lhis iiin'enlion is an highly eiiicient dclctter hy culling the enor close to their and of tearing eil hcr the enr contents.
will he hereinafter fully particularly pointed cm; in
the claim.
29 in thc a-cm drawings, Figure 1 is an elem the park: out of working po n i; a view at right angles to i 2-3 an cnlargedsection: 11 .lirm Fig. Fig. l is a diagran'nnaiie V i'he manner in which the :I d. llefcrrii v l. dcsigirl'cs a clip or holder ch is pre ably composed of metal oi U-shapc with its two spring arms normally ghtl divergent when the device is nol. m use, the Ere-c encs of the -arms being oci-1 (mlwardly at right angles lo form two corrcsprmding seats. Upon one oi these is joarnaled cutter in the form of k having a beveled or knife-like edge, c upon lhe other is jonrnaled a a: and support for the cutting disk, and i also is in form-of a disk, 3, having a x ipheral groove 1 to receive the knife edge of the cutting disk. This groove is of och depth to prevent the edgeof the isk from contacting with its inner yet; this groove serves to guide disk and properly'aline the two i disks when in Operation. These disks may bejournaled by any suitable means, but they preferably fit on unthreaded portions of screws 5 which enter threaded openings in the seals.
Kormally the two disks occupy slightly inclined positions, at an angle to each other, but when pres-ire is applied to the spring arms of the clip or holder the disks are brought together with the knife edge of the cutting disk fitting in the peripheral groove of the guiding disk. In practice the ed e of the envelop is placed bet-ween the two 'isks and is grasped between them'when pressure is applied upon the spring arms, and by a relative movement between the envelop and the device, the disks are caused to revolve on their journals and thereby efi'cct a clear cut of the paper without tearing it; at any point. 1
'A device thus constructed is very convenient, especially in handling large mails, and by .means thereof envelops -;may be readily and easily severed without danger or" tearing them ortheir contents.
I claim as my invention:
The herein described device comprising a clip or holder'of U-shape having its arms of spring metal and normally slightly divergent, the outer ends of said arms having seats at right angles'thereto, and two disks jo, naled on said seats, one disk having a kni e edge, and the other disk having a peripheral. groove to receive said knife edge, such groove being of such depth that the, knife edge cannotcngage'its inner .Wall.
In testimony who: f, I have signed this specification in the presence of two subscribing witnesses.
