To all whom it may concern-.-
Be it known that I, JACOB J Q PLANco, acitizen of the United States, and a resident of the city of New York, borough of Manhattan,-1 .in the county and State of New York, have invented a new and Improved Cigar-Box, of which the following is a full, clear, and exact description.
Mly invention relates to a cigar box, and an o ject of my invention is to provide a box in which cigars of peculiar configuration may be packed in position separate from one another so as to prevent injury to the same.
A further object of my invention is to provide a box in which the cigars are so arranged that they may be readily withdrawn.
I at-tainthe above outlined objects by dis; posing within the box a separating member taking the form of the side of the cigars in' the box. A
Reference is to be had to the accompanying drawings, forming a partof this specification, in which similar characters of reference indicate corresponding parts in all the figures, and in which Figure v1 is a perspective view looking down upon a box containing a preferred embodiment of my invention; and Fig. 2 is' a transverse sectional view taken on the line 22 of Fig. 1.-
The box Aisof the usual form of ox of this character, and constructed of wood.
pasteboard or other suitable material, he ing an inner paper lining B. In the draw ing, the invention is shown in a case where it is desired to separate triangle-shaped cigars C, so that the sharp edges may not be broken in carryin the box with some of the cigars remove or in withdrawing the cigars from the box. In the drawing, the cigars are arranged with each alternate cigar resting on a face of the triangle, and each of the other cigars resting on an apex thereof. i
' The cigars arranged in a layer are separated by a separating strip D, the illustration showing two strips. 'The strip takes the form in this instance, of serrations, preferably' having one end thereof E fastened to the box. The strip D is made up of a series of comparatively stiff sections connected to one anotherend to end, each two connected sections being of a length equal to and coinciding with the two sides of a triangular cigar ada ted to be embraced thereby. As illustrated: the cigars adapted to be packed on of Letters Patent.

and carried in this box are of a vform in cross section of an isosceles triangle, but I do not wish to be limited to the exact form thereof illustrated. It is preferable,-hoW- ever, in carrying out the spirit of this in vention that each of said separator sections will substantially contactwith the bottom and closed top of the box, whereby when the top is closed all of the separator sections will be maintained in substantially the position indicated in the drawings, making it impossible fora cigar in any one of the triangularspaces to become displaced or damaged by jostling about, irrespective of any of the other spaces. In other words,
my box is particularly well adapted for carrying a quantity of cigars and using'the same therefrom. Any of the cigars being left in the box after some of the cigars have been used will be snugly held in place by the particular means herein specified. As shown in Fig. 2 particularly each of the separator sections meets both the bottom and the closed top at oblique angles, and since all of the said sections connected to one another end to end, it is an impossibility for any of the triangular spaces, even though empty, to become distorted when the box top 1s closed. I
In. place of a pair of members D, as shown in Fig. 1, it is, of course, to be understood that any nu-ziber of these members may be substituted for the pair shown, or but one of th members may be used of a length substantially equal to the length of the cigars.
Having thus described my invention, I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent:
1. A box for holding cigars triangular in cross section, provided with a strip extending across the interior thereof and bent to form triangular spaces, whose apices are arranged alternately, whereby. the cigars will be held .in the upper and lower spaces of the said strip.
2. The herein described box for cigarstriangular in cross section, comprising a top and a bottom spaced apart a distance sub- Stantially equal to the altitude of said cigar triangle, and a strip extending across the interior of said box and comprising a series of stiff separator sections of equal length connected each to each, each of said sections having length signal to that of the side of the cigar and meeting the bottom and closed top of the box at oblique angles, whereby name to this specification in the presence of the strip will be maintained in position to two subscribing witnesses. I form a plurality of equal spaces, each space JACOB J PLANCO being adapted to receive a slngle triangular 5 cigar and hold it in place irrespective of all Witnesses:
of the other spaces. SAMUEL'M. REIss, In testimony whereof I have signed my WILLIAM Russ.
