Y IMPRo'vnn :WASHING-MACHINE.
The` Schedule referred to in these Letters Patent andmaking of thefsame.-
` Be it ,known that I, PnILANDEa WILrsoI-i, of Milan, in the'ccunty ot' `Erie and State of Ohio, have invented `certain newr andusefullmprovements in Washing-Machines, of which the following is a speci- Iication.'4 Y
Description `of. Drawings.
Figure l .is a side viewot` the machine.
Figure 2a topview.
Figure 3, anend View. v
reference refer to like parts in the Nature and Object of the Invention. A l This invention has for its object the washing of clothes bythe use of` a revolving corrugated roller, in combination with a reciprocating corrugated board voperating one uporrthe other in the manner as follows l l General scrz'ption. In tli"'"`mdrawilig,`g. A l y A` represents the boxor case of the machine, inthe sides ot' whicllLis journaled'the corrugated roller'B', tig'.`
2, to which motion is given by the belt and' pulleyY G,
driven 4bythe vwheel D, as hereinafter shown.
E iig. 3,:isa wash-board hinged to a -sha-ft, F, and to.` which a 'transverse reciprocating action isl .given by tbefvibrator, G, to which it is connect ed by a link, H, 'said vibrator beingl actua-ted by a wheel, I, conlu ectcdthereto by a link, J, and opera-ted by the driving-wheel D and beltK.
The-shaft F to which the wash-board` is hinged, is `held loosely in positionbyy the guides L, into which `:the ends are tted, `and slideV backward and forward therein, as and fora purpose presently shown.
Operation.
lows: Y y t The articles to be washed are thrown into the box wvA, one 'of which is then Vtaken and spread upon the roller, to which it will adhere in consequence of its be sing wet. The roller B is now made to revolve by the means above described, Aduring which time the clothes" or articles ou the roller are rubbed -by the reciproeating action ot' the board E, which is forced againstA the roller and articles, by the spring M, fig. 2, nt-
tached to the end of the arin N, whereby the .board A is made to adjust itself to the thickness ot' the article -on the roller, and to press with more or less force upon it, according to the tension of the spring, and,
therefore, rubthe articles more or less hard, as may be required. .Y The roller may be made torrevolve continuously, or but. partially so. By turning it backward and forward the rubbing may be continued at one particular place that may require it, and thus the more speedily remove the dirt than if theroller should be coutinned in its revolution for a more general rubbing.
Claim..
`That I claim as my improvement and desire `to secureby Letters Patent, is y Y- A'washing-machine, when constructed with a co1 vrugat-ed roller, B, reciprocating ywash-board E, shaft. y
F, vibrator G, `spring M, pulleys O D and case A, all arranged to operate in the manner substantially as `described and for the purpose set forth.'
Witnesses: PHILANDER WILBOR.
