Description

Patented July 2, 1912.
ALVERDA J. HENSLEY, OF CLINTON, ILLINOIS.
CORSET ATTACHMENT.
specification of Letters Patent.
Patented July 2, 1912.
Application led `November 1, 1909. Serial. No. 525,795.
To all whom it may concern.'
Be it known that I, ALVERDA J. HENSLEY, a citi-zen of the United States, residing at Clinton, county of Dewitt, and State of Illiand which will be. effectual in use and Aof simple and economical construction. I Other objects will appear hereinafter.
With these objects in view my invention consists in a corset attachment characterized as above mentioned and incertain details of construction and arrangement of parts all a-s will be hereinafter fully described and particularly pointed out in the appended claim.
My invention will be more readily understood by reference to the accompanying drawings forming a part of this specification and in which, l
Figure 1 illustrates the proper arrangement of my improved attachment upon the body of a woman, Fig. 2 isa plan view of my device detached, Fig. 3 is a detail perspective illustrating the preferred means employed of fastening the adjoining edges yof the comprising half parts of the device,
and Fig.` 4 is a sectional detail illustrating the preferred means of attachment of the device tothe upper edge portion of the corset.
Referring now to the drawings my device consistsI simply of a body 1 substantially crescent in form, which is comprised-of two similar half parts 2 and 3 each of a substantially rectangular form. Said parts are formed of any suitable non-elastic durable material of preferably a durable fabric, the shortest edges 4 thereof being preferably overlapped and detachably secured together.' Such connection between ysaid edges is effected preferably by means of a plurality of hooks 5 arranged upon-the contacting' sur- .face of one of said edges and a plurality of eyes 6, adapted to be engaged by said"y hooks,
provided upon the contacting surface of the Aother ofsaid edges. Although this is an efficient, reliable, and simple means ofconnection it is understood, however, that I do not limit myself thereto, since other connecting means of a possibly equal or greater efficiency might be employed if desired withf out departing from the spirit of theinvention.'
Provided adjacent the lower or convex edge of each of the body parts 2 and 3, is a plurality of female clasp members or sockets 7 spaced thereon asV shown. Provided adjacent the upper edge of the front and side portions of the corset' 8 of the proposed wearer of the device, the same being spaced thereon so thatl the same may be brought to register with the sockets 7 is`a plurality of male clasp members or balls 9. With such provision it is evidentthat the secure attachment of the body 1 to the upper edge of a corset may be readily and quickly eifected. I-Iere also, as above stated, I make no specific limitationV as to the means of attaching the device to the corset, but consider myself at liberty'to employ any other similar method desired.
In the arrangement of the device upon a woman, the lower or convex edge thereof is secured to the upper edge to the corset with the adjoining edges of the parts 2 and 3 edges or the front steels of the corset' thereof.A With such arrangement, upon the wearer removing her corset, the connected edges 4 of the partsl 2 and 3 need only to'be unfastened, said parts being permitted to remain uponthe corset parts, hence when the corset is replaced, the same will be in correct position, said edges 4 needing only to again be connected.
By forming the body l of a substantially crescent designas shown, upon the arrangement thereof upon a woman in a manner as above described, it will `be found that the same will compress or force inwardly the breasts or separate side portions of the bust securely confining the same, preventing the unsightly and embarrassing projection thereof beyond the upper edge of the corset, and also serving to avoid to a certain degree .vertical or lateral movement thereof when vwalking or otherwise physically exercising.
Having' described my invention what I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent'is:
A corset, in combination with a garment comprising ,a flexible body of a length to adapt the same to.extend substantially half way` around the body of the wearer, said flexible body being tapered toward each end and the lower edge of said body being longer u than the upper edge and detachable clasp connections between the lower edge of said body and the upper edge of the forward portion of said corset, whereby said body is "secured vto the corset throughout the length -of said lower edge, substantially as dcscribed. A
In testimony whereof I have signed my name to this specification in the presence of two subscribing witnesses.
ALVERDA J. HENsLEY.
Witnesses:
