' comfortable to the wearer, will prevent the soiling of the clothing of the wearer and will permit the napkins commonly worn to be easily and readily changed.
With these and other objects in view. my invention consists in certain constructions, combinations and arrangements of parts, the preferred form of which will be first described in connection with the accompanying drawings and then the invention particularly pointed out in the appended claim.
Referring to the drawings wherein the same partis designated by the same reference numeral wherever it occurs: Figure l is a perspective view of a garment embodying the preferred form of my invention. Fig. 2 is an interior view of the upper portion of the garment unbuttoned to more clearly show the construction, and Fig. 3 is a detail view on an enlarged scale of a portion of the garment to more clearly show the construction.
The garment is in general outline that of the ordinary bifurcated type and is pro vided with a waist band 5 preferably pro vided at its back with gathering tapes 6 by which the waist band may be made -to fit the wearer. The garment is closed at the crotch and opens down the side of one leg as shown at 8, the edges of the opening be ing provided with buttons and buttonholes 9-40.
11 designates a generally saddle shaped sheet of waterproof fabric, which is adapted to be detachably secured in the garment, and will when in position cover the entire seat, crotch portion and greater part of the abdominal portion of the garment. The sheet 11 has a portion 12 which covers the seat of the garment, a portion 1,2; which covers the abdominal part of the garment, the portions 12 and 13 being connected together by the portion 1 which covers the crotch of the garment. The sheet 1.1 is preferably bound around its edge with a binding tape 15 in which are cut the buttonholes 16, through which are buttoned the buttons 17 sewed onto a line of reinforcing tape 18 stitched to the inside of the garment.
In order to support a napkin I provide a front tab 19, and a back tab 20 stitched at their upper ends to the body of the garment to which the end portions of the napkin may be pinned and in order to provide ready access with the front of the garment to permit of the adjustment and fastening of the napkin in position I provide in the front of the garment beside the tab 19 a font 21 adapted to be closed by a button 22 and a buttonhole 23.
\Vhile I have described what I believe to be the preferred form of my invention I desire to have it understood that I realize that considerable variation is possible in the details of construction and arrangements of parts without departing from the spirit of my invention, and I therefore do not intend. to limit myself to the specific form shown and described exceptas defined in the claim herein.
VVhat- I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent is: I
In a bifurcated garment, a main portion closed at its crotch line, a leg'portion provided with a closed side, an opposite leg portion open at its side from its junction with the waist line of'the garment to the bottom of said leg portion, means for securing the edges of said opening together,
a removable lining for the seat, abdominal and crotch portions of said garment, a tab at the front and back portions of the garment to which a napkin may be secured, and a font located beside the front tab whereby said napkin may be readily secured to and detached from the front tab.
