To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, HARRIE H. JOHNSON, a citizen of the United States, residing in the city of New York, borough of Brooklyn, county of Kings, and State of New York, have invented a certain new and useful Adjustable Support for Receptacles, of which the following is a specification.
This invention is an adjustable support for receptacles, intended for use, more particularly, in connection with the tubs of ice cream freezers, and other structures which it is necessary to operate manually.
The objects of the invention are, first, to support a receptacle securely in a fixed position convenient for the attendantto operate said receptacle; second, to enable the device to be used in connection with receptacles of different sizes, and, third, to simplify the construction so as to secure economy in manufacture.
With the foregoing, and other objects in view, the invention embodies a receptaclesupporting platform, and a plurality of edgeengaging clamps supported above said platform and in cooperative relation thereto for the purpose of rigidly holding a tub, or other receptacle, at both the top and bottom portions thereof in a fixed position upon the platform.
In a preferred embodiment of the invention the platform and the edge-engaging clamps are carried by a wall fixture common to said parts. Said wall fixture is, preferably, a column or bar having means for fastening it rigidly in position upon a wall, whereby the platform and clamps are adapted to support the receptacle at a height convenient to the operator; The platform is rigid with the wall column or bar, and it is provided with a plurality of tub-engaging clamps, the latter being movable radially to different positions upon the platform for the purpose of adjustment into fixed engage ment with the lower part of a tub or receptacle, whereby the platform and clamps are.
adapted to engage with tubs of different diameters. The edge-engaglng clamps are attached to a clamp carrier, and the latter is '3 movable in a vertical direction upon a guideway of the wall column or bar, whereby said edge-engaging clamps are movable to different positions for engagement with the edge portion of tubs which vary in height or diameter. To these ends, the edgeengaging clamps are shiftable upon the clamp carrier so that said clamps are adapted to engage with tubs which vary in diam- I eter, whereas the vertical adjustment of the clamp-carrier positions said clamps for engagement with tubs of difi'erent heights. Means are provided for clamping the clamp carrier at different positions upon the wall column, and, preferably, the edge-engaging clamps are shiftable both pivotally and slidably. The clamp carrier and the clamps thereon are so arranged that ready access is obtainable to the freezer without hindrance from the supporting mechanism, whereby the can of a freezer may be removed or re placed without disturbing the tub.
In the accompanying drawings, I have illustrated one practical embodiment of the invention, but the construction shown therein is to be understood as illustrative, only, and not as defining the limits of the invention.

A wall fixture 5, in the form of a column or bar, is adapted to be fastened to a wall, or other support, by any suitable means. Said column is grooved lengthwise, as at 6, and it is provided with a guideway formed by longitudinal flanges 7, which flanges are parallel to the grooves so as to cooperate with said grooves, for a purpose to be hereinafter set forth. The fixture or column carries a platform 8, which is rigid with said wall column, and this platform may be, and preferably is, provided with an annular flange 9 to prevent displacement of a receptacle from the platform and also to preclude the flow of liquid from said platform. If desired, the flange is provided with a suit able drain spout, 9. Platform 8 is provided with a plurality of radial slots 10, coiipera ing with each of which is a tub-engaging clamp 12. Each of these clamps 12 isprovided with a depending guide flange 13, and
with suitable retaining means, such as a set screw 14L, so that the clamps can be moved in the slots 10 away from the annular flange 9 and toward the center of the platform, or vice versa, for the purpose of accommodating tubs of different diameters. Said clamps 12 may be, and preferably are, provided with a spur 15 which is adapted to be embedded into the material of which the tub is composed, for the purpose of more cffectually clamping the tub to the platform. lhe platform is braced and strengthened by a suitable brace or arm 16.
A clamp carrier 17, which may be of any preferred form, but which is shown as curved lengthwise, is slidably mounted upon the wall fixture 5, and this carrier is provided with a clip 18 provided with flanges 19, which flanges coiiperate with the guideway composed by the grooves 6 and flanges 7 on wall fixture 5, for the purpose of retaining the clamp-carrier 17 in slidable engagement with the column. Clamping screw 20 is mounted on the carrier 17, and operates upon the plate 21 of the guideway for securingthe desired frictional engagement between clip 18 and the guideway, and thereby retain the clamp-carrier 17 in fixed relation to the guideway.
One feature of the invention is the edgeengaging clamps 22, which are supported upon the clamp-carrier 17 above the platform 8, and in coiiperative relation thereto. These clamps are of any preferred shape and size, but each is shown as a plate which is provided with a longitudinal slot 23, through which passes a suitable bolt 24 having a nut 24, whereby the clamp may be slidably or pivotally moved with relation to the carrier, and, when moved to a desired position, said clamp may be secured fixedly in such position. These clamps 22 are provided with suitable tub-engaging means,
such as jaws 25, which are adapted to contact with the inner and outer faces of the tub at the edge or top thereof.
In employing the support, any suitable receptacle, such as an ice cream freezer, is placed upon the platform 8, and tub-engaging clamps 12 are moved into frictional engagement with the bottom part of the tub, the spurs 15 being embedded in the material of the tub, after which clamps 12 are secured in fixed relation to the tub by tightening the screws 14. Clamp-carrier 17 is now moved upon guideway 20 of the wall fixture or column 5, until said carrier is in operative position over the top of the tub, whereupon the edge-engaging clamps 22 are brought into position over the top of the tub, so that jaws 25 span the edge of the tub and engage the inner and outer faces thereof; The nuts 24* are now tightened to preclude sliding or pivotal movement of the clamps 22, and the clamping screw 20 is also tightened to prevent vertical movement of the clampcarrier 17. It will be readily understood that the freezer will now be held rigidly by the support during the entire freezing operation, the attendant being required merely to operate the freezer. It will be observed, also, that no part of the support need be removed or readjusted to enable the attendant to gain access to the contents of the freezer or the tub.
Having thus fully described the invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent is 1. A device of the class described embodying a wall fixture, a receptacle-supporting platform rigidly-attached to said wall fixture at the lower part thereof, a clamp-carrier supported on the wall fixture above said platform, and a plurality of separate clamps attached to said clampcarrier, each clamp having a jaw for embracing the edge of a receptacle adapted to be placed upon the platform.
2. A device of the class described embodying a vertically positioned wall fixture, a receptacle-supporting platform supported at the lower part of the wall fixture, a clamp-carrier supported on the wall fixture above the platform, said clamp-carrier being adjustable vertically with reference to said platform, means for retaining the clampcarrier in different operative positions upon the wall fixture, and a plurality of clamps supported on the clamp carrier.
3. A device of the class described embodying a vertically positioned wall fixture,
a receptacle-supporting platform supported on the lower part of said wall fixture, a clamp-carrier supported on the wall fixture, said clamp-carrier being adjustable verticallywith respect to said platform, and a plurality of clamps supported on the clampcarrier, each of said clamps being pivotally attached to the clamp-carrier.
4. A device of the class described embodying a wall fixture, a receptacle-supporting platform carried thereby, a clamp-carrier supported on the wall fixture, a plurality of edge-engaging clamps shiftable with reference to the clamp-carrier, and means for attaching each clamp to the clamp-carrier.
5. A device of the class described embodying a wall fixture, a receptacle-supporting platform carried thereby, a clamp-carrier supported on the wall fixture, a plurality of edge-engaging clamps slidably and pivotally movable with relation to the clamp-carrier, and means for retaining each clamp in fixed relation to the clamp-carrier.
6. A device of the class described embodying a wall fixture, a platform rigid therewith, a movable clamp-carrier mounted on said wall fixture, and a plurality of clamps supported on the clamp-carrier for slidable and pivotal movement with relation thereto, each of said clamps being provided with jaws which are adapted to engage the edge of a receptacle.
7 A device of the class described embodying a wall fixture, a platform rigid therewith, a vertically adjustable clamp-carrier mounted on said wall fixture, a plurality of clamps supported by the clamp-carrier, each of said clamps being slotted and provided with means for engaging the edge of a receptacle, and a bolt passing throngh the slots of said clamps and adapted to permit slidable and pivotal movement of the carrier.
8. A device of the class described embodying a Wall fixture, a clamp-carrier having a plurality of edge-engaging clamps, a receptacle-supporting platform in cooperative relation to said edge-engaging clamps, said platform being provided with a plurality of radial slots, and a pluralityof receptacleengaging clamps mounted for movement in said radial slots and adapted to engage with the bottom portion of a receptacle.
