To all whomifimag concern;

Be it known thatl, CHAnLns W MEnnr FIELD, a citizen of the United States, and a resident of Springvale, Sanford, in the county of York and State of Maine,- have invented a new and useful Imprqxgement in Fly-Killers, ct which the following is a specification.

My invention relates to fly-killers and broken away, and Fig. 2 is a section on the line 22 of Fig. 1;

In the particular drawlngs selected for more fully disclosing my invention,-1 rep resents a handle of any suitable form terminating in or provided with the prongs 2, 2. In the present instance the handle is formed of twisted wire and the ends thereof constitute the prongs.

The flap 3 consists of a double thickness of wire mesh or other suitable material, and in the present instance two pieces of wire mesh are" placed on either side of the prongs and secured thereto by the caps 4, 4t, which may be of leather or other flexible material. The reinforcing caps extend beyond the end of the prongs, and as shown in the present case, each is fastened to one of the prongs by the thread 4 which is then bound around the apex of the prong as shown at 4: to prevent the prongs from spreading. The edges of the wire mesh may be bound with ,any suitable material 5, such leather, corduroy, etc., the inner ed of such bind ing material being sewed together and to the mesh, as shown at 5 and int-losing the reinforcing cops. it will be obvious that by extending the caps beyond the ends of the prongs the latter are effectively prevented from breaking through the mesh and the binding when the device is in use.

By means of the construction above described, I am enabled to eliminate the usual wire loop which heretofore has been employed to inclose the mesh, thereby greatly increasing the flexibility of the device. It is because of such increased flexibility that the reinforcing caps are desirable as otherwise, by the constant backward and for.- ward bending of the plate, the ends of the prongs will break through the wire mesh.

A fly-killer comprising a handle tenninating in two prongs, a flap consisting of wire mesh secured thereto, reinforcing ceps of flexible material secured to said. pro] n and mesh, said caps extending beyond the ends .of said prongs for preventing the letter from breaking through said wire mesh, and a binder for the edges of said. mesh, said binder inclosing' said caps.
