WINDOW-CURTAIN ROD.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented June 4, 1912.
Application filed July 5, 1910. Serial No. 570,409.
To all whom it may concern Be it known that I, JANE GEARY, a citizen of the United States, residing at New Bedford, in the county of Bristol and State of Massachusetts, have invented new and useful Improvements in Window-Curtain Rods, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to improvements in window curtain rods. Heretofore, these rods have been constructed with their ends relatively sharp so that in inserting them in the hem of starched window curtains the curtains were frequently torn or were mussed to such an extent that they had to be relaundried.
It is the object of this invention to obviate this difficulty and particularly speaking con-' sists in providing a cap having a rounded end adapted to fit upon the rod so as to cover the sharp edges thereof whereby the rod may be easily pushed into the hem of a curtain.
A further object of the invention is the provision of a cap of this type which is gdppted to receive an ornamenting bulb or Further objects of the invention will appear as the following specific description is read in connection with the accompanying drawing which forms a part of this application, and in which:
Figure 1 is an elevation of the device. Fig. 2 is a similar view with the ball removed. Fig. 3 is a detail longitudinal sec tion through Fig. 1.
Referring more particularly to the drawings 1 represents a rod and 2 represents the attaching cap which is provided with the rounded end 3. Most of the window curtain rods are made of brass or brass coated metal and in applying the cap to this type of rod it is preferably sweated or shrunk on. An ornamental ball 4: is shown as pro-- vided with a collar 5 in which the cap fits and a screw 6 passes through the end of the ball and threads into the rounded end of the cap 2. The ornamenting ball is placed upon the cap after the rod is inserted in the curtain or the ball may be left off according to the use to which the rod is put.
Having thus described the invention, what is claimed is A curtain pole comprising a bar, a cap permanently secured thereon, and having the same equal in diameter throughout its length, said cap being provided with a thickened semi-circular rounded end, and formed with a centrally arranged opening therein, an ornamental ball mounted on and entirely covering the said cap, and a retaining element extended through one end of the ball and threaded into the said central opening of the cap substantially as and for the purpose described.
In testimony whereofI aflix my signature in presence of two witnesses.
JANE GEARY.
