TIN-OXIDIZING FURNACE.
' Specification of Letters Patent.

By the provision of a divided fire ch'am-.
ber, in each half of which the stoking can take place while the combustion is going on uninterrupted in the other and while the draft in the flue and thereby thetemperature of the furnace-is being regulated by admitting air to the flue, a detrimental formation of soot and a reduction of tempera-v ture duringthe stoking process, are effectively prevented. A complete and uniform oxidation of the metal is thereby effected, and a perfectly white and soft tin oxid is obtained.
. In the accompanying drawings the invention is illustrated, Figure 1 represent ng a vertical section of the furnace on'the line CD of Fig. 2 which is .a section on the line A-B of Fig. 1. Fig. 3 is a horizontal section on the line E-F of Fig. 2.
The metal is disposed in a melting pan' 1) which is heated in known inanner,-the oxidized metal being raked off over an inclined surface a into a collecting receptacle d.
of which the According to the invention the fire chamber is'divided by means of a partition a into two halves which are stoked alternately. Between the melting pan and the chimney an air chamber 6 is provided the air supply to which is regulated by means of a dpmper f. While the stoking is in progress the natural draft in the flue, and thereby the temperature ofthe furnace, can be so regulated by means of the dam er that no disturbance whatever in t e oxidizing process takes place. The air chamber 6 also prevents oxidized particles from passing off through the chimney together with the flue gases, such passing off and consequent loss of metal being common in the ordinary fur-- naces.
In an oxidizing furnace, the combination with a melting pan and with a furnace for heating the same of a vertical partition dividing the fire chamber ofsaid furnace into two independent parts, an air chamber arran ed between the melting pan and the chi ney,
parts of the fire chamber are being alternately stoked, so as to maintain the furnace at a.uniform temperature, substantially as set forth.
