SKIN-TREATING DEVICE.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented May 28,1912.
Application filed March 13, 1911. SeriaINo. 614,102.
To all whom, it may concern:
Be it, known that I, JOHN G. FORD, a citizen of the United States, and residing at 310 South Fifth street, in the city of Keokuk and county of Lee, State of Iowa, have invented 'certain new and useful Improvements in Skin-Treating Devices, of which the following is a specification.
The object of my invention is to produce a device to remove from the scalp all dust, dandruff, etc., by the suction process. The device may be used with equal facility on other parts of the body, not only to clean the skin, but to increase circulation; with this and other objects in view, my invention consists of the parts as will be hereinafter more fully set out.
In the drawing, Figure l is a side elevation of my invention, partly in section; Fig. 2 is a front elevation of one of the tools or implements.
1 represents a hollow body'open at both ends, the upper end being adapted for an attachment to a suction or vacuum device, while the lower end is provided with an annular depending flange 2. v
3 is a handle secured to the body 1 in any suitable manner.
Various forms of implements may be used,
but for the purpose of illustrating the in-- vention, I have selected three forms, one of which is provided with a base 4, provided with an upwardly extending annular flange 5, adapted to fit snugly around the flange 2 of the body 1.
6 is a chamber in communication with the bodyl by means of the port 7 formed in the base 4. The chamber 6 extends the entire width of the implement and has depending fromit a series of tubes 8, serrated at their lower edge as at 9, each tube being in communication with the chamber 6 and consequently with the body 1.
As is well known, it is very difiicult to remove dandruff from the skin by the wet process inasmuch as the scales of dandruff, when wet have a stronger affinity for the skin, thus making it practically impossible to cleanse the scalp.
In using my invention, the body 1 in the construction shown in Fig. 1, is connected to a suction or vacuum apparatus and by the assistance of the handle of the device, the teeth or tubes are drawn over the scalp through the hair somewhat after the fashion of a comb, the dandruff being drawn up through the tubes and the body of the instrument to a suitable deposit receptacle. The serrations at the lower ends of the tubes or teeth facilitate removal of the dandruff very materially.
This device may be used for stimulating the circulation, and it may also be used for the removal of what is commonly termed black-heads from the skin.
In a device of the character described, the combination with a main hollow body, an annular flange depending therefrom, and a handle connected to said body, of an implement for contact with the sln'n, comprising a base, an annular flange extending upward from said base constructed for frictional contact with the depending flange of the main body, a chamber depending from said base having a port through said base, and a series of tubes depending from and in communication with said chamber and having their ends serrated; the main body being constructed for connection with a suitable suction device.
JOHN 0. FORD.
