o This invention relates to animprovement in optical toys and the object of the invention is the provision of atoyofthis character which is of a simple constructionand with wh1ch a great deal of amusement may be derived by the person using the same.

In the present invention use is made of gives a reflection in aninverted form, to gether with the fact that it is exceedingly hard to write or draw with any degree of accuracy when the hand is not visible to the eye, to produce a toy of such a construction that a person using the same will ex perience great difliculty either in copying a given pattern or in writing a given word or character and will derive considerable amusement from his efforts to do so.

F designates an elastic band, the ends of which are adapted to pass around the head of the user of the toy so as to support the body of the toy upon thehead in the proper position. a In the use of the device the bodyor casmg of the toy is first supported upon the head of the user by the elastic band F so that he is compelled to look through the sight openings a in the front wall thereof in order to see and it is obvious that such objects as he does see will be seen by reflection only owing to the angular disposition of the mirror E. With the device thus supported, the user attempts to draw upon a tablet either the copy of some pattern already appearing on the tablet or to write in the first instance some word, character or other subject matter upon the tablet. As the user of the toy is enabled to see the tablet and his hand which manipulates the pencil by reflectiononly, great difficulty is experienced in drawing or writing the desired subject matter and considerable amusement is derived from the efforts of the user to do so.

While I have described the elastic band F as the specific means used to support the toy upon the head of the user, it is obvious that anyother means might be utilized for supporting the toy in position, or such means might be dispensed with altogether and the toy held in the proper position by the hand of the user. A piece of plain glass G is preferably secured to the inner surface of the front wall 13 of the box-like body so as to overlie the sight openings a therein, but it is obvious that such piece of glass may be dispensed with if desired.

I do not desire to limit myself to the precise form and construction shown in the drawings, as it is obvious that many minor bottom open and provided with a sight opening in one side thereof, a mirror supported in said casing opposite the sight opening, said mirror being positioned in a plane at an angle to the plane of the sight opening in the casing, and means for supporting said casing upon the head of a person. I

In an optical toy, a closed casing having its bottom open and provided with a pair of sight openings in one side thereof, a mirror supported in said casing opposite the sight openings, said mirror being positioned in a plane at an angle to the plane of the sight openings in the casing, and an of said front wall and provided with 21 mirror on its inner surface, side walls connecting said front and rear walls, and means for supporting said casing upon the head of a person.
