Letters Patent N 102,756, dated May 10, 1870.
IMPROVE!) COLLAR FOR ATTVACHING' COW-BELLS.
'l'he Schedule referred to in these Lettera Patent and making part'of the name,V
To all whom it may concern.-
Be it known that'I, THOMAS H. BODY, ofKilbourn City, in the county of Columbia and State of Wisconsin, have invented a new and valuable Improvement in. Means for Attaching Gow-Bells; and I do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description of the construction and operation oi' the same, reference being had to theannexed drawings, making apart of this specification, and to thc letters and figures of reference marked thereon. l
Figure 1 of the drawings is a representation of my invention in perspective.-
Figure 2 is a sectional view.
My invention relates to means for preventing the removal of the bells from the necks of cattle, and consists in the construction of an iron collar suited to the neck of the animal, and so formedA that itcannot be removed without suitable instruments.
The'letter A of the drawings represents my invention.
It consists of two semi-elliptical bands of iron, provided at each end with a flanch, B, perforated to receive the fastening screws.
The band is transversely curved, the belly of the curve being toward the neck of the animal, thereby preventing the edges from rubbing.
The perforations c c of the flanches are made somewhat larger than the diameter of the screw, in order that it may lit loosely therein. But the unt d is made to fit the screw e tightly. Hence, gin order to take the nut from the screw, it will be. necessary to apply two wrenches, one to the head of the screw, the other to the nut, in order to hold the screw while the nut is being turned. i
The tlanches B B are placed in the widest part of thecollar, so that it will not be necessaryv to strain the same in by opening or closing the bows A A.
Should it be desired to make the collar a nonconductor of electricity, it may be accomplished by applying a. varnish of tar and resin.v
What I claim as my invention, and desire io'sccure by Letters Patent, is-' Thel cow-bell safe herein described, consisting of the semi-elliptical iron bows A A, transversely curved,
and provided with flanches B B, perforated at 'c to re cevethe fastening screw e, made to fit loosely therein, but secured by'a,tghtly-ttiug nut, d, when con-' .strueted and arranged as and for the purposes speci-
