Specification of Letters Patent. 1

Application filed April 5,1911. Serial No. 619,120.

To all whom it may concern:

Be it known that I, JOHN CHEoK, a citizen of Sweden, residing at Kokomo, in the county of Summit and State of Colorado, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Wood-Carriers,- of which the view the invention consists in the combination and arrangement of parts to behereinafter fully described inthe following speci-.

My device comprises a floor or base formed of a pair of parallel lateral members 1 and a pair of parallel front and

rear end members

2 and 2 respectively, all approximately of the same length, connected at their extremities to form a square, the front and rear end members being connected by a diametrically disposed cross piece 3. Hinges 1 at the front of the device have one leaf secured to the front end member 2 and to the member to which this member 2 is connected and the other leaf secured to a rod 5 that lies in a plane parallel with the plane of the member 2 but held normally above that member. The rod 5 is held in position by a wire rod 6 approximately U-shaped, the extremities of which project slightly below the said rod as shown in Fig. 2 and the said rod 6 is then wound about the rod 2 and extends up to the top of the carrier and then across the front of the same approximately in the in its transverse portion or base which eyes lie in a. vertical plane and on either side of an intermediate eye 8 that is disposed in a horizontal plane, to approximately the end ofthe rod when it is dropped vertically to engage the rod again and to project therebelow. The purpose of the projections of the rod6 below the transverse rod 5 is to form a stop for the base of the carrier when the same .swings downwardly on the hinge 41 which operation will bring the front cross piece 2 against this projection. Rear hinges 9 are secured to the lateral pieces 1 and to the piece 3 at their junction with the rear end piece 2, the said rear hinges being connected by a transverse rod 10 lying in a plane parallel with the plane of the rod 5 but disposed below the same and to this rod 10 is secured a wire rod 11 much the same in shape as the wire rod 6 and lying in a plane parallel thereto but formed with but one eye 12in its transverse or upper portion. Both extremities of this wire rod 11 are fastened to the rod 10 near the extremities thereof. 13- is a wire rod formed of a piece of material bent to form a main body portion which is somewhat U-shaped in formation as shown in Fig. 3, the extremities thereof being bent downwardly approxi mately at-right angles to the said body portion as at 1 1 (see Fig. 1) to engage the eyes 7 of the rod 6, while the base of the U -shaped body portion is prolonged to form Patented May 28,1912.

a tail piece 15 which is closed at its termination and engages the eye 12 of the rod 11. The member 13 forms the roof or top member of the carrier. A handle 16 has one extremity threaded as at 17 which extremity enters the eye 8 of the rod 6 and nuts 18 and 19, one on either side of this eye, hold the said handle in position. The upper part of the handle 16 is curved to form a shoulder piece by means of which the device may be carried and the means of attaching the said handle to the carrier make it capable of rotation in its seat. When it is desired to fold or collapse the device the rod 11 is rotated on its support 10 until it lies upon the upper surface of the floor of the device, after the rod 13 has been withdrawn from the eye 12, and the floor of the device is rotated on the rod 5, to which it is secured by hinges 4, until it lies in a plane parallel with the plane of the U-shaped rod 6, the rod 13 is then let fall over the upper termination of the said floor when the device will be folded and occupy the position shown in Fig. 2.

What I claim is In a wood carrier, a frontportion formed of a single piece of material approximately inverted U-shaped in formation provided with a plurality of eyes in its upper portion, a'transverse rod secured to the said front portion near its lower end, abase pivotally secured to the said transverse rod and disposed in a plane below the same; the said base being held against forward movement by the extremities of the front portion, a transverse rod secured to thebase, a back portion inverted U-shaped in formation,

and a handle pivotally secured in the front portion.
