Be it known that I, FREoERIcK RADLOFF,

a citizen of the United States, residing at Goldendale, inthe county of Klickitat and State" of WVashington, have invented a new and useful ashing-Machine, of which the following is a specification.

My invention relates to improvements in Washing machines.

The invention has for its object to provide for effecting the fabric or clothes cleansing operation with facility and in an expeditious and effective manner.

A further object is to. efiect the actuation of the washing or cleansing means or contrivance readily and conveniently.

A, further. object is to carry out these ends in a simple, inexpensive and effective manner.

The invention consists of certain instrumentalities and features substantially as hereinafter fully disclosed and defined by the claims.

In the accompanying drawing, illustrating the'preferred embodiment of my invention, wherein it will be understood that various changes and modifications may be made as relates to the details of the construction and arrangement of the parts without departing from the spirit of the invention: Figure 1 is a view partly in vertical sect-ion and partly in front elevation of the machine. Fig. 2 is a fragmentary detailed view showing more especially the uprights. Fig. 3 is a detailed section produced upon the line AB of Fig. 1.

In carrying out my invention, I provide a suitable sectional yoke or frame 1, each section being designated as 1 and having a right-angled or L-shaped outline the upper or horizontal portions of which are suitably coupled together as later disclosed. The vertical or upright portions of the frame or yoke 1 have applied thereto lateral upright-members or bars 2 between which andport-ion l is received the upper edge of the clothes or fabric receptacle or tub 3 as disclosed and whereby the device or yoke is suitably connected to said tub. The upright members and clamp-bars 2, are held to the yoke-sections and to the tub or clothes-receptacle 3 by means of suitably headed bench-screw like fastenings 4: insertible and working through the vertical or upright clamp-bars 2 and the corresponding portions of said yoke-sections. The

lower ends of the parts 1 and 2 are provided with extensions 3*, and l respectively, for obtaining an extended engagement therebetween and the tub.

The horizontal portions of the yoke-sections of the member or frame 1 are suitably and adjustably coupled together by means of sleeves 5 equipped with holding orset screws 6, said sleeves receiving the inner. or overlapping portions of said horizontal portions and said screws engaging the same. By this arrangement the yoke-sections or members may be relatively adjusted-to accommodate the yoke or frame to tubs or fabric-receptacles of different diameters, or cross-sections, as circumstances or the contingencies of the case may require.

A-n agitator 7 preferably of general framelike outline is suspended to hang or depend vertically within the plane of the fabric-re ceptacle so as to engage and agitate the water contained therein, the bottom bar or member of said agitator having water passages 8. therethrough to prevent the undue churning of the water and splashing action thereof. The suspending means for said agitator includes, preferably, a sleeve or collar 9 engaging or receiving the horizontal lapping portions of the sections of the frame or yoke 1, said sleeve being provided with a set-screw 10 adjustably holding it in place. The adinstability of the collar or sleeve 9 is necessary to provide for centralizing it when effecting the adjustment of the yoke-sections,

Also employed for completing the suspending of the agitator 7, is a preferably hook-ended member or link 10 engaging an eye-ended pendant or screw 11 depending from the collar or sleeve 9, said member or link 10 being preferably screwed at its lower end into the upper cross-bar of the agitator 7 A loose jointed connection or suspending means is thus provided for the agitator, whereby it may have a back-and-forth swinging movetion or drawing, it is clearly apparent that my invention is characterized by extreme simplicity, is readily operated with the ex- 1 penditure of but the minimum eifort or strength, is effective in its cleansing or washing actlon, and 1s lnexpensive of manufacture, all being the greatly desired endssought in this class of devices.

I claim 1. A washing machine, comprising an agitator for engaging the water contained therein, means for actuating said agitator, a yoke including sections of approximately an L-shape, set-screw-equipped couplings engaging the overlapping horizontal arms of said sections, an agitator suspending means for said agitator embracing a set-screwequipped collar arranged upon said yoke, and a loosely jointed connection between said agitator and said set-screwequipped collar.

2. A washing machine, including an agitator, meansfor actuating said agitatoiga yoke comprising L-shaped members adapted to be attached to a receptacle and having horizontal lapping portions adjustable coupling sleeves receiving said horizontal lapping portions, a third adjustable coupling sleeve engaging said horizontal lapping portions, intermediate the aforesaid coupling sleeves, and suspending means for said agitator connected to said third coupling sleeve.
