TOOL FOR CLEANING BOILER-HEAD CAP-SEATS.

Be it known that we, WILLIAM`T.4 Ho- GARTH and DANIEL K. DEAL, citizens of the United States, and residents of the city of Williamsport, county of Lycoming, and State of Pennsylvania, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Tools for Cleaning Boiler-Head CapfSea-ts, of which the followin is a specification.

Our invention re ates to tools for cleaning the cap seats on the boiler heads of'water tube boilers.

In water tube boilers the tubes are arranged with their ends secured in the tube sheets of the headers. Directly opposite the ends of the tubes the boiler heads or hand hold plates vare provided with hand holes which are closed by hand holecaps. To make tight joints between the caps and boiler head orv hand hole plate, either ground joints are provided or gaskets are interposed between the caps and the plate. In either case, when the caps are to be reset, it is necessary to thoroughly clean the plates by removingall traces ofthe old Gaskets or by scraping the ground joints, as the case may be. It is a diliicult task to remove the gaskets which have hardened on the plates and to clean the ground joints which have become incrusted, in order to permit tight joints to be made between the caps and the plates when the former are reset.

Il`he object of our invention is to provide a tool for removing the old gaskets and for scraping the ground joints above mentioned.

A further object of our invention is to provide a device of the class mentioned which shall be of simple construction, strong and durable and which may be readily operated. v

Other objects will appear hereinafter.

With these objects in /view our invention consists generally in a rod or stem, a scraperwlixed transversely of said stem, a slide on said stem, means for clamping said slide and said scraper upon opposite sides of a hand hole plate or boiler head and means for turning said stem.

Ourinvention further consists in various details of construction, and arrangements fully described hereinafter and particularly pointed out in the claims.

Referring new to the drawings Aindi cates a hand hole plate or boiler head of a water tube boiler and B one of the handA holes therein to give access to a tube and which is closed by a cap.

The tool comprises a stein 1, a scraperor knife 2, a slide?) and a clamping member 4, together with suitable means for rotating the stem. The stem 1 is threaded as at 5 this specifica- 'throughout the greater portion of its length and one end thereof is squared as at 6 to reeelve a crank 7 or other suitable means for' rotating the same. The scraper 2 1s thread- -ed upon the .opposite end of the stem and comprises a transverse bar 8 and avpair of oit-set knives 9 at the ends thereof. The
