Description

PATENT OFFICE.
sAUnDEEs HUBBELL, JE., 0E WEST SALEM, omo.
IMPROVED WASH-BOARD.
Specitication forming part of Letters Patent No. 102,545, dated May 3, 1870.
To all whom it may concern Be it known that I, SAUNDERS HUBEELL, Jr., ot' West Salem, in the county of Wayne and State of Ohio, have invented certain Improvements in Wash-Boards, ot' which the following is a specification.
My invention relates to the construction 0f the frame of a Wash-board out ot' galvanized iron, and securing to the frame a double washing or rubbing' surface of corrugated zinc or other suitable material.
Figure 1 represents either afront or rear elevation ofthe Wash-board. Fig. 2 represents a transverse section near the top ot'the rubbingsurfaces.
The entire wash-board is made ot' galvanized iron, with the exception of the rubbingsurt'aces, which areot' zinc. It is of usual form, and the upper corners may be either rounded or angular. i
A represents the frame, to the upper part of which is secured the plate B. This plate enters a groove provided in the center of the rim, and is there securely soldered. This plate extends down, as indicated by dotted lines,
from near the top of the rubbing-surfaces to the lower end. A plate, D, (see Fig. 2,) of the form ot' two sides ot' a triangle or curvilinear, is soldered to the frame. These plates serve the double purpose ot' stitlening the external rim and supporting the corrugated plates, which are let into orilices cut t'or their reception.
At Fig. 2 is shown in transverse section the relation of the several parts. A is the external rim; D, stiffening-plates; G C, corrugated plates; m, a plate or stay by which the corrugated plates give mutual support; and an, Wires or rods, which give additional support to stitt'en the plates. These Wires extend the full length of the plates.
I claim as my invention- The wash-board frame constructed of galvanized iron, substantially as shown and described, and its arrangement with reference to the double corrugated plates, as specified.
