IMPRovED SHOE-BRUSH.

The Schedule referred to :in these Letters Patent and making c1 the same To all whom it may concern:

Be it known that l', FRANK D. HOLLAND, of Lewiston, in the county of Androscoggin and State of Maine, have invented av new and useful Improvement in Blacking-Brush; and I do hereby declare that the following is a full and exact description of the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawings and to the letters of reference marked-thereon.

This invention relates to that class of brushes which is provided with a receptacle for the blacking upon the brush itself, from which the flow is regulated by means of a lever, V and consists in certain specific details of construction, which will be fully described hereinafter.

A represents the brush proper, which is provided with the usual handle, a.

B represents the receptacle for the black'ing, which consists cfa water-tight box provided with'the screwcap opening b, through which the liquid blacking is introduced, and the threaded proj ection or tube 1)', upon which is screwed the small brush c, as shown.

D represents acm-ved lever, pivoted at d upon the handle a.

The end of the longer arm of this lever is'made of such size and shape as to accurately cover the openingr ofthe tube b', and it is also provided with a rubber cap or valve. v

The end of the short arm is provided with a steadying pin d1, which passes through the handle, and has encircling itthespring d2, as shown.

The operation will be readily understood. The brush is used in the ordinary manner, excepting that liquid hlacking is used in the receptacle B, which is permitted to flow, when desired, vint-o the small brush c, and upon the hoot by means 'ot' the 'operation-of the lever D.

The construction of the brush is not especiallyV .'lhe handle, lnain brush, and small brush,are all the same, but the latter is'screwed to the receptacle B instead of being directly attached to the mainbrush. The form of the level' and its location are, also, desirable points. The liquid is securely retained, and yet readily permit-ted to flow when desired. rlhe additional parts are readily attached at a small cost.

What l claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent of the U nit-ed States, is-

The brush described, consisting of the main brush A, with 'handle a, receptacle B with opening b, and

vthreaded tube b', small brush c, and lever D, with pin d and spring d', when all the parts are constructed,

combined, and arranged as described, for the purpose set forth.
