DEAD-PLATE FOR BOILERS.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, JOHN W. CHAMBERS, a citizen of the United States, residing at Newark, in the county of Newcastle and State of Delaware, have invented a new and useful Improvement in Dead-Plates for Boilers, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to certain new and useful improvements in dead plates for boilers, the object being to provide a dead plate which is cast in one piece in such a manner that the water will have a free circulation' through the same so as to lengthen the life and prevent the dead plate from burning out.
Another object of the invention is to provide a dead plate which is provided with inwardly projecting partitions so arranged with respect to the inlet and outlet that the water through the dead plate will travel in a zigzag manner to keep the dead plate cooled at all times. 7
A still further object of the invention is to provide a dead plate which is exceedingly simple and cheap in construction and one in which the inlet is arranged at one end and the outlet at the other in order to cause the water to travel longitudinally through the dead plate.
With these various objects in view my invention consists in the novel features of construction, combination and arrangement of parts hereinafter "fully described and pointed out in the claim.
In the drawing forming a part of this specification: Figure 1 is a front elevation of my improved dead plate. Fig. 2 is a vertical section through the plate. Fig. 3 is a horizontal section through the same.
In carrying out my improved invention, I employ an oblong casting which is preferably Specification of Letters Patent.

said partitions are a plurality of inwardly projecting partitions C, which extend inwardly from the opposite sides of the casting in such a manner that the water entering one end will pass around the ends of the respective partitions as clearly shown in order to cool the same. The casting is provided with an inlet pipe D at one end and an outlet E at the other end through which water is adapted to pass and can be connected to any suitable supply desired so as to cause a complete circulation of the water. By having the partitions arranged in this manner and the feed and outlet pipes arranged at the ends, the water supply can be readily connected or disconnected and the device can be readily removed or placed in position.
Having thus fully described my invention what I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is
A dead plate for boilers comprising a rectangular oblong casing, solid transverse partitions arranged adjacent the ends of said casing, and a plurality of intermediate partitions arranged between the partitions first mentioned, said intermediate partitions stopping short of a side wall of the casing, and being arranged oppositely with respect to each other, and means for admitting water and withdrawing water from the space between the said first mentioned partitions.
