ANDREWS MOUCHIN, 0F MOSCOW, RUSSIA. I
, FEED-WATERVIIURIFIER r03 BOILERS.
To all whom it may concern Be 1t known that I, ANDREWS MoUoHIN, a
subject of the Czar of Russia, residing at ,House of Education, Moscow, Russia, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Feedater Purifiers for Boilers; and I do hereby declare the following to be 3 afull, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make'and; use the same.
This invention relates to means ofpurifying feed water for locomotive and other parts hereinafter described, and the novel; features thereof will be particularly pointed out in the appended claims.
To fully understand the once will be had to the accompanying drawings'illustrating the preferred embodiment thereof, and in which like characters of ref erence indicate corresponding parts.
Figure 1 is a longitudinal view, partially in section, of a locomotive boiler embodying myinventiomand Fig. 2 is a transverse sectional view taken on line 2-2 of Fig.1.
In the drawings, 1 representsalocomotiveboiler of ordinary construction, and 2' To either side of the tubes 2 is plates are secured at one'endto a vertical back wall 5 that extends from sideto side of the boiler just in front of the fire box wall.
Extending from the back wall 5, and arranged in spaced relation between each vertical side plate 3 and the shellof the boiler are'vertical partitions 6 of less height than the vertical plates 3, and forming settling chambers 7 for receivingthe sediment from the water. Connected to the upper ends of the vertical plates 3 and extending longitudinallyto the back wall 5, are outwardly inclined guide-plates 8 having curved lower ends which terminate below/the top of the vertical partitions 6 and project into the settling chambers 7. Extending the full length, near the bottom, of each settling Specificatipnof Letters Patent.
invention, referchamber 7, and projectingthrough the front end of the boiler is a pipe'9 which is pro- Patented Dec. 17, 1912. I Application filed December 27,1910. Serial No. 599,601. I
vided with apertures 10 through which the I sediment may pass. The pipes 9 are connected centrally by a pipe-yoke 11 in which are arranged shut-off valves 12, and from the pipe-yoke leads a pipe 13 which may be connected to a steam supply for blowing 1 v out the settling chambers. The pipe 13 is also providedwith a shut-off valve 14. The projecting ends of the pipes 91' are closed by plugs 15.
From the foregoing it is apparent that when water is admitted to the boiler, it is directed to the' settling chambers by the guide-plates and the sediment or heavy particles settle tothe bottom, while the clear water is allowed to flow over the vertical partitions and into the casing around the sides and top of the boiler tubes. The spaces betweenthe walls 1', 3, 6 and 8 provide channels or passageways forming a circuitous course through which will be understood. I
Although the elements set forth and herein described'are fully adaptedto accomplish the purposes forwhioh they'are intended, it I tubular boilers, the combination of plates disposed adjacent the sides of the tubes, a vertical partition arranged between each of said side plates and the boiler forming settling chambers, a curved plate connected to each of said side plates and extending below the top' of the partition, and means *for the water flows, as
cleaning the settling chambers, substantially I as described. g r
2.111 a means for purifying feed water for tubular boilers, the, combination of plates,
disposed adjacent the sides of the tubes, a
