WITNESSES INI/ENTR sfrrns A GEORGE B. CLEMIVIER, OF TRENTON, NEW JERSEY.
CONDIMENT-HOLDER.
Application filed August 26,
T0 all whom t may concern:
Be it known that I, GEORGE B. CLEMMER, of Trenton, in the county of Mercer and State of New Jersey, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Condiment-Holders; and I hereby declare that the following isa full, clear, and exact description thereof, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, which form part of this specification.
This invention is an improvement in condiment holders being more particularly designed for salt shakers or cellars; and its object is to provide an attractive, simple, easily cleaned holder, in which the contents will be agitated every time it is shaken by an interior movable agitator of novel construction, so that the contents cannot become clogged because of dampness or packed if they harden when the holder is not in use; and one in which the parts may be easily separated and cleansed.
The accompanying drawings illustrate a condiment holder embodying the invention in the preferred form; Figure 1 being a vertical sectional view of the holder showing the sliding agitator or partition in side view. Fig. 2 is a similar view showing the holder reversed and the position the agitator partition assumes in such case. Fig. 3 is a vertical section at right angles to Fig. 1, on line 3 3 Fig. 1. Fig. A is a transverse section, on line 1 -L1 Fig. 1. v
The holder or cellar A is preferably made of glass and may be ornamented in any desired manner; it preferably has an enlarged flaring base a and is provided with a threaded neck or collar a at its upper end. The holder is also provided interiorly with diametrically opposite vertical guides or grooves a2 in which the partition-agitator B is guided and retained in position.
The agitator B preferably consists of a sheet metal plate which may be slightly taperedso as to allow for the draw necessary in molding the cellar A)-and is preferably provided with numerous apertures b so that the contents of the cellar may pass readily from one side to the other of the partition, and in case there is any tendency of the contents to pack, the openings in the partition will help to loosen up the contents. 'Ihe partition-agitator is shorter than the holder and is guided in the grooves a2 so that when the holder is shaken this Speccaton ofLetters Patent.

or reciprocate up and down in the grooves and break up or divide the contents of the holder and agitate same so that they can be readily discharged through the apertures in the cover C.
The partition-agitator is preferably provided on its upper and lower ends with a series of points, which may be formed by serrating or notching the ends of said part-ition. These points Z serve to penetrate and divide the condiment in the holder, in case the latter should happen to pack therein while the holder was not in use.
The cover C is preferably hemispherical in form and may be constructed substantially as described in my Patent 956,942, May 3, 1910; only in this instance the apertures therein are preferably of the same size. The cover is provided at its base with an outwardly projecting flange c which is adapted to be engaged by an inwardly projecting flange d on the threaded metal collar D which engages the threaded collar a on the upper end of the holder.
The holder may be readily filled with condiment by removing the cover C; the partition is preferably placed in the holder before the condiment is placed therein; and when the holder is shaken the partition agitator slides back and forth therein and breaks up the material. The partition agitator being guided in its movements will always tend to force its way edgewise through the condiment, and the whole weight of the partition is only exerted on a small portion of the condiment at a time, and the partition will not become blocked or clogged; and by reason of the points on the ends of the partition the latter can cut its way very readily through the condiment in the holder.
The device is simple, but very useful, practical and eliicient in operation.
What I claim is:
1. A condiment holder comprising a body provided with vertical guides on its inner side, a short movable partition-agitator in said body engaging said guides, said partition comprising a plate provided with points on its end and adapted to move edgewise in the guides, and a cover for the holder.
2. A condiment holder comprising a body provided with vertical grooves in its interior, a movable partition-agitator in said body engaging said grooves or guides, said agitator being shorter than the length of the holder and movable longitudinally thereof when the latter is shaken, and a hemispherioal cover for the open end of the body and a flanged threaded collar detaohably attaching said cover to the body.
3. A oondiment holder comprising a body provided With vertical grooves in its interior, a movable partition-agitator comprising a plate provided With perforations and with notches or points on its ends and adapted to move edgeWise in the grooves, said agitator being shorter than the length of the holder and movable longitudinally thereof When the latter is shaken; and a cover for the holder.
In testimony that I claim the foregoing as my own, I aiix my signature in presence of tvvo Witnesses.
GEORGE B. CLEMMER.
