To all whom it may concern;

Be it known that I, EDWARD FLEMING, a citizen of the United States, residing at 182 Guilford avenue, Columbus, in the county of Franklin and State of Ohio, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Picture-Holders, of which the following is a specification.

My invention relates to picture hangers, and is specially designed as an improvement on the construction embodied in my patent 894,197, dated July 22, 1908.

In addition to the meritorious features illustrated in the patent above referred to, the present invention comprises/adjusting means, consisting of elastic members, adapting the hanger for pictures of varying widths, and the device is also adjustable for use with pictures of varying depths.

The invention consists in certain novel features of construction and combinations and arrangements of parts as hereinafter set forth and more clearly pointed out in the claim.

In the accompanying drawings I have illustrated one example of the physical embodiment of my invention constructed according to thebest mode I have so far devised for the practical application of the principles.

While I shall hereinafter refer to the device as a picture hanger, itwill of course be understood that the device may be used in connection with all ordinary pictures, glass plates covering pictures, mirrors, and other articles of like nature.

In the drawings, in which like reference characters designate similar parts: Figure 1 V is a front elevation of the picture hanger, a

fragment of a picture being illustrated in connection therewith, and Fig. 2 is a side or edge view of Fig. 1.

In its preferred form the hanger comprises a pair of complementary members, usually made of twisted wire.

The suspending member is fashioned with a vertically disposed bar 1, formed at its upper end with a loop 2. At its lower end two diverging legs 3,3, extend from the bar 1, and the extremities of these legs are fashioned into clasping or gripping hooks 4, 4.

An adjustable, slidable member, 5, of similarly bent or twisted Wire, is connected to the bar 1 of the suspending member by means of the loops or eyes 6, 7. These loops are spaced a suitable distance apart in order to insure a well braced connection between the two members of the hanger. Diverging arms 8, complementary to the legs 3, are extended upwardly from the member 5, and the extremities of these arms are provided with clasping or gripping hooks 9, 9, similar to the hooks 4. Upon reference to Fig. 2, it will be observed that the arms 8 are arranged in a plane inclined to the vertical suspending member 1. This construction is desirable in order to provide means by which the picture may be best presented to view when suspended, for instance upon a wall, above the line of vision.

The nature of the metallic arms and legs of the two members provides for an elastic adjustment of these parts to adapt them for varying widths of pictures. The slidable connection between the two members permits vertical adjustment of the parts to adapt them for varying depths of pictures. The friction between the loops 6 and 7 and the portion 1, is suflicient to hold them in adjusted relationship. The friction required is only very slight, as it will be understood that the picture, which is gripped at its four corners by the hooks 4, 4, and 9, 9, is carried by the suspending member 1, which is attached to a hook, nail, or screw by means of the loop at its upper end.

While I have described a satisfactory form of the invention, it will be understood that various changes may be incorporated therein, without departing from the spirit of the claim annexed hereto.
