UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
vCHARLES REMHOF, OF NEW YORK, N. Y.
CURTAIN-POLE RING.
To all lwhom t may concern.' n
Be it kno-wn that I, CHARLES REMHOF, a citizen of the United States, and a resident of the city and State of New York, have invented certain Improvements in Curtain- Pole Rings, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to certain improvements in curtain pole rings, and the object of the invention is to provide a device of this general character of a simple and comparatively inexpensive nature, and of a com pact and strong construction which shall permit of being conveniently operated for movementalong the curtain pole when the ring is shifted therealong, ysaid ring being provided with rotary members capable of engagement with the pole to facilitate such movement, the construction being such as to permitthe ready and convenient application or removal of the rotary members.
The invention consists in certain novel features of the construction, and combina-` tions and arrangements of the several parts of the improved curtain pole ring, whereby. certain important advantages are attained, and the device is rendered simpler, less expensive, and otherwise better adapted and more convenient for use, all as will be hereinafter fully set forth.
The novel features of the invention will be carefully defined in the claims.
In order that my improvements may be the better understood, I will now proceed to describe the same with reference to the accompanying drawings, wherein-Figure 1 is a view partly in section and partly in elevation illustrating a curtain pole ring constructed in accordance with my invention in applied position; Fig. 2 is a sectional view taken on t-he line 2 2- of Fig. 1; Fig.
' 3 is an enlarged sectional view of one of the rollers employed in the invention, and Fig. 4 is a fragmentary view partly in section and partly in elevation illustrating certain details o-f construction.
yIn these views, 1 denotes a curtain pole of any ordinary or preferred construction, and 2 the main portion of a pole ring which is made tubular or hollow and of sheet metal,
circular in cross section and provided with a suspending ring 3 swiveled thereto. The main portion 2 is segmental in form, and of a size in excess of a semicircle. Each of the free end portions of the mainportion 2, are adapted to extend within the flange portion Specification of Letters Patent.

4 of a cap 5, said cap 5 being formed of a single piece of material having its central port-ion 6 extended to form a barrel or sleeve and it is to be observed that this barrel or sleeve 6 has its periphery disposed in an upwardly curved plane for a purpose to be hereinafter referred to. The intermediate body portion 7 is arranged on an incline from the flange 4 toward the barrel or sleeve 6 and approximately centrally of such body portion 7 is produced the annular shoulder 8 which presents a bearing surface for the roller 9 to be hereinafter more particularly referred to. The barrel or sleeve 6 is adapted to be snugly accommodated within a similar barrel or sleeve 10 produced on a second cap 11 which is held to an auxiliaryV segment 12 also tubular and formed of sheet metal. This cap 11 is formed in an identical manner as is the cap 5 with the exception that the barrel or sleeve 10 is of greater diameter than the .barrel or sleeve, so that when the device is assembled, the sleeve 6 can be accommodated within the sleeve 10, and thereby produce an axle or shaft for the roller 9 and the fact that these barrels or sleeves 6 and 10 are curved assures an engagement of such parts, which is effectually held against accidental displacement. It is therefore to be observed that when the parts are assembled that the free ends of the sleeve or barrel 10 of the cap 11 contacts with the intermediate or body portion 7 of the cap 5 whereby the proper assemblage of the parts is assured.
The roller 9 may be of any ordinary or preferred construction, it being only necessary that the sides 13 thereof be concave as is clearly shown in Fig. 2, and that the bore 14 of such wheel be in excess of the shaft or axle produced by the parts 6 and 10. By having the bore 14 produced in this manner, it will be understood that the bearing of the roller in its operation will be mainly upon the shoulders 8, and thus relieve the axle or shaft from the major portion of the strain thereof and thereby greatly enhance the eliiciency of the device. derstood that the caps 5 and 11 are to be suitably secured upon the segments 2 and 12, but the specific means employed forms no part of the present invention and a detail thereof is believed to be unnecessary.
From the above description of my invention, it will be seen that the improved curtain pole ring constructed according thereto,
It is also to be unis of an extremely simple and comparatively inexpensive nature and is particularly Well adapted for use by reason of the convenience of its assemblage and facility of its operation, and it Will also be obvious from the above description, that a device constructed according thereto is capable of considerable modification Withoutmaterial departure from the principles and spirit of the invention, and for this reason I do not desire to be understood as limiting myself to the precise form and arrangement of the several parts herein set forth in carrying out my invention in practice.
Having thus described my invention, What I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent is:
1. A device of the character described comprising a plurality of segments, caps engaging the end portions of the segments, a barrel extended from each of the caps, the barrels of adjacent caps being in telescopic engagement one with the other, each of said caps having an annular shoulder produced thereon to provide a bearing surface and a roller mounted on the bearing surface so produced and having its sides concave to contact with the surfaces provided by the annular shoulders.
2. A device of the character described comprising a plurality of segments, caps engaging the end portions of the segments, a barrel extended from each of the caps, the barrels of adjacent caps being in telescopic engagement one With the other, each of said caps having an annular shoulder produced thereon to provide a bearing surface and a roller mounted on the bearing surface so produced and having its sides concaved to Contact with the surfaces provided by the annular shoulders, the bore of the roller being greater than the lateral diameter of the bearing surface.
3. A device of the character described comprising a plurality of segments, caps engaging the end portions of the segments, a barrel extending from each of the caps, the barrels of adjacent caps being in telescopic engagement one with the other, each of said caps having an annular shoulder produced thereon intermediate the flange and barrel thereof to provide a bearing surface, and a roller mounted on the bearing surface so produced and having its sides concave to contact with the surfaces provided by the annular shoulders, the bore of the roller being greater than the lateral diameter of the bearing surface.
4. A device of the character described comprising a plurality of sections, the opposing end port-ion of adjacent sections being united by a coupling member, said coupling member consisting of tivo parts, each part having a marginal portion formed to produce a cap to embrace the end portion of one of the sections and having its central portion extended to produce a barrel, the barrel of one of the sections being telescopically engaged with the barrel of the second part to produce a shaft, and a roller mounted to revolve around the shaft so produced.
In Witness whereof I have hereunto signed my name this 27 day of October 1910, in
the presence of tivo subscribing Witnesses.
