EUGENE O. KUENNETH, GUSTAVE SOHREIER, AND CHARLES KUENNETH,
OF MOUNT OLIVE, ILLINOIS.
EXTENSION ELECTRIC-LAMP HOLDER.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 566,193, dated August 18, 1896.
Application filed January 2'1 1896. Serial No. 576,344. (No model.)
To all whom it may concern.-
Be it known that we, EUGENE O. KUEN- NETH, GUs'rAvE SCHREIER, and CHARLES KUENNETH, of Mount Olive, in the county of Macoupin and State of Illinois, have invented a new and Improved Extension Electric-Lamp Holder, of which the following is a full, clear, and exact description.
The object of the invention is to provide a simple and effective extension holder for holding an electric lamp in different positions.
The invention consists in the construction and novel arrangement of parts, as will be hereinafter specified, and particularly pointed out in the appended claims. 7
Reference is to be had to the accompanying drawings, forming a part of this specification,
in which similar characters of reference indicate corresponding parts in all the views.
Figure 1 is a side elevation, partly in section, of our improved extension, electric-lamp holder. Fig. 2 is an elevation taken in a plane at right angles to that of Fig. 1, and Fig. 3 is an end view of one of the telescopic sections.
To the base-plate A is secured the strip 13, having perforated angled ends a for receiving the pintle O; and an arm D is provided, which is formed in two parts I) c, the part I) being bent over upon itself to form a sleeve for receiving the pintle O. The adjoining ends of the parts b c are perforated to receive the bolt E, by which the two parts are clamped together, the bolt being provided with a wing-nut cl, and washers being placed under the head of the bolt and under the wing-nut.
To the end of the part c of the arm D is secured the tube F, made in two diameters, the free and smaller end of which is provided with a fillet e. In the said tube F is inserted the tube G, which is provided with a fillet e, and has secured to its inner end a split annular spring f, which expands outwardly and presses against the inner surface of the tube F. In a similar manner the tube G is inserted in the tube G, and is provided with a spring f, which bears upon the inner surface of the tube G and has at its outer end a fillet 6 In the same way a tube G is placed inside of the tube G, and is provided with an annular spring f which presses against theinner surface of the tube G, and is provided at its outerend with a fillet e In the tube G is inserted a tube G which may be either angled, as shown in the drawings, or straight, the said tube having upon its outer end an ordinary lamp-socket H for receiving the lamp 1. The inner end of the tube G is provided with an annular spring f The coiled double conducting-cord J, which extends through an insulator gin the tube F and is connected with the house-leads, carries the current to the lamp.
It will be seen that as the telescopic tubes are extended the coiled conducting-cord J will allow of the extension, and the engagement of the annular springs f f f f with the fillets c e e e will limit the outward movements of the tubes, the annular springs being sufficiently heavy to hold the telescopic tubes in any position in which they may be placed.
The holder as a whole may swing in any planeupon the pintle O, and it may be swung at right angles to this plane upon the bolt E, and is held at any desired inclination by the wing-nut d.
Having thus described our invention, we claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent-- 1. An extension-ho1der for electric lamps comprising a series of telescopic tubes, fillets between adjacent tubes and annular springs on certain of the tubes, the spring of one tube being in frictional engagement with a surrounding tube, substantially'as specified.
2. An extension-holder for an electric lamp comprising a base-plate supporting a pintle, an arm comprising a portion bent upon itself to form a sleeve to engage over the pintle, and a portion pivoted to said first-named portion to swing at right angles to the swing of the first-named portion, a telescopic support carried by said arm, substantially as specified.
EUGENE O. KUENNETH. GUSTAVE SOHREIER. CHARLES KUENNETH.
