To all whom it may concern:

Be it known that I, SHELDON Hones, a citizen of the United States, residing at Buffalo, in the county of Erie and State of New York, have invented a new and useful Improvement in Display Devices, of which the following is a specification.

This invention relates to a display device which is designed for displaying blocks of wood presenting on their face sides samples or varnish or other finish and for similar articles, and has the object to hold the blocks securely and in such manner as to display their face sides nicely, while permitting each block to be readily removed when required for purposes of exhibition or for replacing it by another block.

In the accompanying drawings: Figure 1 is a perspective view of a display device consisting of several leaves hinged together in the form of a book. Fig. 2 is a fragmentary perspective view, partly in section, of one of the leaves which contains sample blocks. Fig. 3 is a fragmentary horizontal section of such a leaf.

Like reference characters refer to like parts in the several figures.

The sample blocks A are rectangular in form and arranged end to end in several horizontal rows, one above the other, on the supporting leaf which may be a doublefaced leaf B carrying blocks on both sides or a single-faced leaf C carrying blocks on one side only.

The body (l of the leaf may be of wood, card board or other suitable material and is surrounded by a four-sided frame 6 which is preferably provided at its upright end portions with inwardly projecting flanges f which overlap the ends of the blocks, as shown in Fig. 3.

The body (Z of the display leaf is provided with horizontal partitions or ribs 9- forming between them horizontal recessed spaces or grooves, each of which accommodates a number of blocks. The latter are secured in these spaces or grooves by strips h which are releasably attached to the frame of the leaf and extend vertically across the recessed spaces or grooves in line with the meeting edges of the blocks. These holding strips may be made of thin flexible metal or Specification of Letters Patent.

of leather and are permanently secured to the frame at the lower end of the strips and releasably attached at the upper end by a glove fastener i or some other suitable fastening device which is preferably counter sunk in the frame. The holding strips extending over the meeting edges of the blocks hold the latter securely in position on the support or leaf and do not materially interfere with the display of the finished face sides of the blocks. Upon releasing the strip which holds a block in place the latter can be removed from the supporting leaf. In a double-faced leaf B horizontal partitions or ribs 9 and holding strips 7b are arranged on both sides of the body (Z of the leaf, so that blocks can be displayed on both sides thereof.

A double-faced leaf B and a single-faced leaf C and a cover leaf D are preferably hinged together in the form of a book, so that when the leaves are closed against each other the cover leaf D covers one side of the double-faced leaf B, while the single-faced leaf C covers the opposite side of the double-faced leaf. The inner side of the cover leaf D may be provided with pockets or receptacles for holding printed matter.

I claim as my invention:

1. In a display device, the combination of a support having transverse ribs separated by depressed spaces, transverse rows of removable blocks arranged in said spaces, and upright holding strips releasably attached to said support and extending over the meeting edges of said blocks, substantially as set forth.

2. In a display device, the combination of a double-faced support having on opposite sides transverse ribs separated by depressed spaces, transverse rows of removable blocks arranged in said spaces, and upright holding strips releasably attached to said support and extending over the meeting edges of said blocks, substantially as set forth.

3.
