Description

M. JONAS.
PRESS FOR NEGKTIES. I APPLIOATION FILED JULY 5, 1911.

fife-Maj.- Ewe/2257? MAX JONAS, OF BERLIN, GERMANY.
\ PRESS non NEGKTIES.
Specification of Letters Patent. -Patenteol Mar. 26, 1912.
Application filed July 5, 1911. Serial No. 636,846.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, MAX JONAS, a subject of the German Emperor, and resident of Berlin, Germany, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Presses for Neckties, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to a press for neckties the characteristic features of which consist in that the upper plate which forms the member exerting the pressure may be adjusted with reference to the bearing or base plate and in that to the two opposite edges of the base plate, superposed retaining plates are jointed by means of hinges so as to be adapted to be folded down on the base plate toward the longitudinal axis of the latter.
The accompanying drawing given by way of example, shows one form of embodiment of the invention and in this drawing:
Figure 1 is a top plan view of the neck tie press; Fig. 2 is a sectional view of same on a line A-B of Fig. 1; Fig. 3 is a sectional view on line GD of the same figure.
The neck tie press comprises a base plate a in the lower part of which two pins 6 b situated opposite each other are secured by means of screw threads or by any other suitable device. These pins 5 6 pass through the pressure plate 0 as well as through the longitudinal bore of the metallic heads d which are secured to the pressure plate to in any suitable manner either by screw threads or otherwise. The screw threaded spindles of thumb screws f pass through crosswise arranged bores e and reach the pins 6 so as to allow by a suitable actuation of the thumb screws f the instantaneous immobilization of the pressure plate 0 in the position in which it has been adjusted while being moved along the pins Z2, 6.
To each of the longitudinal edges of the base plate a one, two or three superposed swinging arms h, h are hingedly connected with this base plate by means of common hinges g, 9. These retaining arms are each provided at its upper edge with notches i z the entrance of which is narrowed, the free end'of each arm being provided with swellings or heads la is which, when the arms are folded down on the base plate of the press,
engage themselves behind the head of the common abutment Z thanks to the yielding properties of the materials from which the cooperating parts are made, thus holding the retaining arms h in their pressing position.
For use the arms h are opened, the neck tie is suspended from one of these arms by engaging it into one of the notches 2', the retaining arm or arms h are then folded down on the base plate. The free ends of the neck tie are then engaged under the pressure plate a which is thereafter locked on the base plate by means of the thumb screws f.
Having now fully described my said in vention, what I claim and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is:
1. A press for neck-ties comprising in combination with a base plate, a pressure piate, means for adjustably securing the said pressure plate to the said base plate,
a pluralityof retaining arms hingedly con-' nected with each of the longitudinal edges of said base plate and means for removably retaining the free ends of said arms in the center of said base plate, substantially as and for the purpose set forth.
2. A press for neck-ties comprising in combination with a base plate, a pressure plate, means for adjustably securing the pressure plate-to the base plate, supporting arms on the base plate, said arms having notches with overhanging flanges to retain and support neck-ties pressed between the base plate and the pressure plate.
3. A press for neck-ties comprising in combination with a base plate, a pressure plate, means for adjustably securing the pressure plate to the base plate, arms hinged to the base plate, said arms having notches with overhanging flanges to retain and support neck-ties while being pressed between the base plate and the pressure plate, and means for holding the hinged arms in closed position.
In testimony whereof I have hereunto set my hand in presence of two witnesses.
MAX JONAS.
Witnesses HENRY HASPER, WOLDEMAR HAUPT.
