FOOT-REST FOR BATH-TUBS.

To all whom it may concern:

Be it known that I, FREDERICK Fonsnnno, a citizen of the United States, and a resident of the city of Chicago, county of Cook, and State of Illinois, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Foot-Rests for Bath-Tubs, of which the following is a specification.

My invention relates to improvements in bath tub accessories and more specifically to a foot rest attachment for bath tubs.

The object of my invention is the production of a foot rest of the character mentioned which may be readily and quickly applied for use and expeditiously detached when desired.

A further object is the production of a foot rest for bath tubs which will be of durable and economical construction, and efficient in use.

Other objects will appear hereinafter.

IVith these objects in View my invention consists in a foot rest for bath tubs characterized as above mentioned and in certain details of construction and arrangement of parts, all as will be hereinafter more fully described and particularly pointed out in the appended claim.

My invention will be more readily understood by reference to the accompanying drawings forming a part of this specification. and in which Figure 1 is a side elevation of a conventional bath tub to which is applied a foot rest embodying my invention, Fig. 2 is a transverse section taken on line m-rc of Fig. 1, Fig. 3 is a perspective view of the foot rest detached, Fig. 4 is a perspective view of a. slightly modified form of the foot rest, and Fig. 5 is a section of a bath tub to which is applied a foot rest of the form shown in Fig. 4.

The preferred form of my invention as illustrated in the drawing comprises a body formed of a single piece of metal which is in the form of an elongated band or strip. The upper end 1 of said body, as illustrated in Figs. 1, 2, and 3, is coiled upon itself in such a manner as to be adapted to snugly engage the flared upper edge portion 2 of an ordinary metallic bath tub 3. the inner portion of said loop when in operative position engaging against the under side of said edge 2 of said bath tub, the outer convolution of said end resting against the upper Specification of Letters Patent.

side of said body 2 as clearly shown in Fig. 2. The opposite end 4 of said body depends into the bath tub resting against the adjacent side of the latter, the extremity thereof terminating in an upwardly and outwardly projecting portion 5 which is adapted to etliciently serve in the capacity of footrest. In order to better adapt said end 5 for engagement by the foot the same is preferably covered at its upper side with a rubber covering (i, such covering evidently serving to prevent slipping of the foot when resting upon said end.

The form illustrated in Figs. 4 and 5 is designed for employment in conjunction with bath tubs whose upper edges are notflared as in the form shown in Figs. 1 and 2. To this end the under portion 1 of the device is bent back upon itself more abruptly than in the forms shown in Figs. 1, 2 and 3 so that. when the same is engaging the upper edge of the bath tub of the type shown in Fig. 5 the same will conform more nearly to the conformation of said edge and thus more effectually cooperate therewith.

A foot rest of the construction as set forth is adapted to be readily and quickly arranged in operative position upon a bath tub or to be expeditiously detached therefrom when desired, the same being adapted when in operative position, to effectually serve the purpose for which it is designed. The device is of extremely simple construc tion, hence may be manufactured at a low cost, and the same is not susceptible to readily becoming inoperative.

lVhile I have illustrated and described the preferred construction for carrying my invention into effect, this is capable of variation and modification without departing from the spirit of the invention. I therefore do not wish to be limited to the precise details of construction as set forth, but desire to avail myself of such variations as come within the scope of the appended claim.
