LEON EUGENE CAMERON MOORE AND JAMES SHOOKEY HAMILTON, OF PITTSTON, PENNSYLVANIA.
Letters Patent No. 101,902, dated April 12, 1870.
IMPROVEMENT IN LAMPS.
The Schedule referred -to these Letters Patent and making part of the name,
To all whom it may concern .Be it known that we, LEoN EUGENE CAMERON MOORE and JAMES Snooxny HAMILTON, of Pittston, in the county of Luzerne and in the State of Pennsylvania, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Lamps; ahd do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description thereof, reference being had to the accompanying drawlugs and to the letters of reference marked thereon making a part of this specification.
The'nature of my invention consists in the employment, upon the neck of the lamp, of a band and sprin which secures an absorbent, of any suitable matem'zfi, to prevent the lamp from becoming oily on its exterior, all as moreiully hereinafter set forth.
In order to enable others skilled in the art to which our invention appeltains to make and use the same, we
will now proceed to describe its construction and operation, referring to'the annexed drawings, in which- Figure 1 is a plan view, and Figure 2, aside view of a lamp-collar, with our absorber attached thereto.
Figure 3 is a side view of the absorber. A represents the collar of a lamp, around which collar is placed a st1ip, a, of blotting-paper, felt, or anyother material capable of absorbing oil.
The absorber a is confined by means or a metal band, B, placed around the same, said band being at each end provided with a hook, 1;, upon which are fastened the ends of a spiral spring, 0. This spring thus connects the two ends of the metal band B, and
confines the absorber between said band and the col-' lar A.
The absorber thus placed prevents the lamp from becoming oily or greasy by the sweating or overflow of the oil, as this is taken up by the absorber.
The band B can be readily removed, and the absorber taken out and replaced by another.
Having thus fully described our invention,
