Be it known that I, DURANT D. NASH. a citizen of t-he 'United States, residing at'. Concord, in the county of Cabarrus and State of North Carolina', haveinvented a. new and useful Fireplace, of which the following is a specification.

This invention ielatesto stoves and furnaces, and more especially to fire places; and the object ofthe saine'is t'oproduce a port able fire place structure, itself having ortable water-lmeks, and the whole capab e of being set up in a chimney place ,in such manner that the products of combustion may pass up the chimney but the soot falling down the same will not get into'the water nor into the room.

To this end the invention consists in the details of construction hereinafter described and claimed and as shown in the vdrawings wherein- Figure 1 is a front elevation of this tire place complete, ready toset np in the chimney. Figs. 2 and 3 are sectional views on the lines 2 2 and 3 3 of Fig. l, the brick work of the chimney being included in bot-h instances, the latter view being on an en'- larged scale. Fig. 4' is a side elevation .in detail of one of the water-backs or tanks on an enlarged scale. y

In the drawings the letter B designates the brick-work ot a chimney, the latter having the usual tine F back of its front wall lV, and the chimney C being of the open type and provided with a hearth H. Into the opening thereof I propose to insert my portable and removable fire place complete, and its details willnow be described.

The numeral 5 designates a metallic plate which is of a size to take the place of the usual tire-board with which an open chimney is closed4 when the samel is not to be used. In contour this plate conforms with the shape of the opening in the chimney,`
