LOUIS D. LAWNIN, OF EDWARDSVILLE, ILLINOIS, ASSIGNOR OF ONE-HALF TO N. O. NELSON MANUFACTURING GOIVIPAN Y, 01? ST. LOUIS, MISSOURI, A CORPORATION.
DRINKING-FOUNTAIN.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, LOUIS D. LAWNIN, a citizen of the United States of America, residing at Edwardsville, county of Madison, and State of Illinois, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Drinking-' Fountains, of which the following is a full, clear, and exact description, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, forming part of this specification.
My invention relates to a drinking fountain and has for its object the production of a drinking fountain that may be very easily attached to or substituted for the ordinary drinking faucets now in common use.
Figure I is a side elevation partly in section showing a drinking fountain embodying the features of my invention. Fig. II is an enlarged top or plan view.
In the accompanying drawings :1 designates a well known type of self-closing faucet such as is now in common use at public drinking places, said faucet being located above a sink 2.
3 designates a pipe for supplying water to the faucet 1.
The fountain nozzle 4 is preferably in the form of a ball having a central opening 5, as a nozzle of this shape will be kept absolutely clean by the water discharged through the opening 5. A hollow nozzle holder 6 is arranged below the nozzle and may be secured to it in any suitable manner.
The fountain is supplied with water by a pipe which connects the faucet 1 to the nozzle holder, said pipe being composed of a vertical section 7 having its upper end secured to the faucet, and horizontal sections 8 connecting the vertical section to the nozzle holder.
To enable an authorized person to prop erly adjust the flow of water at the fountain nozzle, a valve 9 is preferably interposed between the pipe sections 8. This valve is provided with a non-circular adjusting stem 10 adapted to be operated by a key or socket wrench 11.
The L-shaped structure produced by the parts just described is reinforced or supported at its outer end by a rod 12 slidably mounted in a depending leg of the noz- Specification of Letters Patent.
Application filed August 27, 1910.
Patented Feb. 2'7, 1912.
Serial No. 579,198.
zle holder 6, said rod having a hook-shaped end which passes over the top edge of the sink 2. This rod after being properly adjusted may be locked in position by a set screw 13.
A drinking fountain constructed in accordance with this invention can be very easily applied to the public drinking faucets now used, although a simple and inexpensive structure, it is amply reinforced by the rod 12, which may be adjusted to firmly connect the apparatus to sinks of various dimensions.
I claim:
1. In a device of the character described, the combination with a sink, of a self closing faucet, a fountain nozzle provided with a holder arranged below and secured to said nozzle, said holder having a depending leg, a pipe connecting said faucet to said nozzle holder, and a rod slidably mounted in the depending leg of the nozzle holder, said rod being provided with a curved port-ion extending over the edge of the sink for supporting said nozzle holder therefrom.
2. In a device of the character described, the combination with a sink or basin of a faucet disposed thereabove, a fountain nozzle suspended from said faucet, and means for reinforcing said fountain nozzle from the sides of said sink or basin.
In a device of the character described, the combination with a self-closing faucet, of a fountain nozzle, said nozzle being in the form of a ball provided with a central opening, a nozzle holder arranged below the nozzle and secured thereto, said holder hav ing a depending leg, a pipe for allowing water to pass from the faucet to said nozzle holder, a key-controlled adjustable valve interposed between said faucet and nozzle holder, a rod slidably mounted in the depending leg of the nozzle holder, said rod having a hook-shaped end for the purpose described, and a set screw fitted to the nozzle holder for locking said rod in position.
LOUIS D. LAWNIN.
In the presence of GEORGE H. PIERSON, SAML. F. LLOYD.
