OF NEWARK, JERSEY, A CORPORATION OF NEW JERSEY.
HAND-BAG OR THE LIKE.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Febr27, 1912.
Application filed August 14, 1911. Serial No. 644,044.
efficient construction whereby, among other practiealadvanta es, the body of the bag is directly suspende from the hinged portions of the frame without 'interferin with the free operation of the latter, an whereby when the bag is closed the vertical ends thereof are in alinement,,or substantially so, with the respective ends of the frame, all as will be hereinafter described and claimed.
In the drawingsFigure 1 is a side elevation of one end of a hand-bag, of the mesh type, embodying my invention. Fig.2 isa partial end View of the bag, enlarged, the same being illustrated as closed. Fig. 3 is a'similar view showing the bag as opened.
Fig. 4 is an elevation of the two sections of the frame as separated. Fig. 5 is a plan of one end of the hinged frame as in open position.
A, A designate the two flanged metallic sections of a bag frame, andB a mesh bagbody suspended therefrom. These sections are provided at each end of the frame with a hinge-joint connection of novel construetion, the same in its preferred form comprisingtwo laterall contiguousdi'sk-like por on or aflixed to the respective flanges of the sections, and centrally connected by means of a pivot pin 3. The outer joint portion 1 is of greaterarea than the inner one 2, and is provlded at or beyond the peripheral edge ofthe latter with a seg .mental slot 4 from which is freely suspended by means of a small link or eye 5 the vertical. end of the ba -body; the edges of such body being flexib y attached by links or otherwise to the respective frame. sections.
It will be seen that the described-slot and link connection of the frame and bag body permits the free movement of the pivoted portions of the frame in the operation of opening and closing the bag; that when the bag is closed the vertical ends thereof are in alinement or substantially so with the adjacent ends of the frame, and that at the same time the. inner joint-portion (2) is entirely covered and concealed by the proximate edges of the bag.
It is to be understood that while my in ventionhas been herein shown and described as "applied to a so-called mesh bag, yet it is equally applicable to other types of bags .or receptacles.
I claim as my invention:
'1. A, bag frame comprising two sectionshaving laterally adjacent pivotally connected portions, one of which portions is provided' with a segmental suspension slot adapted freely to receive the link connection of a bag body.
2. A bag frame comprising two sections ha'vin'glaterally adjacent pivotally con ected portions, -'one of which portions is larger than the other and is provided beyond the peripheral edge of the latter with a seg- ,mental suspension slot adapted freel. to receiv'e'the link connection of a bag b0 y.
3. A :bag frame comprising two sections having laterally adjacent pivotallg connected portions, theout'er ,oneof whic .is larger than the other andisprovided-beyond the peripheral edge of the latter with a segmental suspension slotadapted freel to receive the link'connection of a bag bo y.
4. In a bag, a frame eomprising'two members having laterally adjacent pivotally con nect'ed portions, the outer one of which is larger than the inner portion and is pro'-. 'vided beyond the peripheral edge of thelatter with a segmental slot, a bag body, and a, link connection between the same and saidv slot.
and State of'New Jersey this 10th day of" August A. D. 1911.
Witnesses I H. WoonRow,
' GUSTAVUS SIOKLES.
KELSI'E B. FORD.
